We need someone to make a modification for IPB to add captcha for guests. This idea was discussed and aproved. However, it's dead in the network bureaucracy. The only person who mods IPB here is Mastermind. And Mastermind is overloaded with a lot of stuff. We have to wait him or IPB... I believe IPB will be able to finish it before him O.o

There is a pretty effective solution and that is a hard to break captcha. Disabling guest posting is a temporary solution, do I have to say that a thrid time? I think it is better than sitting around with our thumbs up our asses and whining about how we can't be arsed to integrate a solution into Revora.

Guest posting is something that we value, and is a core part of our approach to community. As such, we turn it off out of great necessity (ie massive spam attack). We know of the spam issue, we know how to fix it, we simply do not have the resources (and they aren't out there) to do it. A CAPTCHA fix is easy to create, but hard to install. Due to the amount of time it would take, and negative effect it would have, we are not going to turn off guest posting until it is created. If you want to go figure out how to mod IPB to install it, you can feel free to be my guest. Until then, you are either going to have to find me a spare stash of time (I simply don't have enough) or just deal with it. Overall the guest spam issue is generally very small.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Ladies and Gentlemen: I'm happy to announce that Lord Of The Gifts has a solution for this problem that will kick the ass of these bots for a good time. We'll implement it as soon as he provides us the IPB mod he made to add captcha to guest posting. :shiftee:

Speak for yourself, I don't value it at all.
