I'm looking for a free PHP based forum that isn't phpBB or IPB 1.3. The only restrictions are that it needs to be completely free (no licensing costs) and run with PHP 4.4 and MySQL 4.1. This is for a personal project, not anything to do with Revora, we aren't planning to change forums any time soon.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

MyBB matches those requirements. We've been running it for a few months now, and while it still has a long way to go to be perfect, it's usable. (I loathe their coding style, but that's just me.)

Why not PHPBB,there's some excellent pre modded versions out there.
Check out Cback and XSPHPBB for starters. Both modded versions have antihack tools as part of the deal with full BB code support.
