got a class trip for the IBC from friday until tuesday, which i hope somehow will have something more interesting than camera rigs and the stuff that turns our teachers on.

anyway, as i won't be there all the time, i hope that some locals might tell me what the hell you can do in Amsterdam when you neither do drugs, smoke or drink. wheres the Games Workshop shop for one, i bet its alot cheaper there than at home. anywhere one should go to look at something interesting, anywhere one should not go?

Yeah don't take pictures in the Red Light District unless you've got a group of Squadies with you that enjoy beating up Dutch bouncers. Thats what I was told, also Amsterdam is full of Brits who went there for the weekend and forgot to come home so thats another nice touch. Dutch beer is some of the best in the world and they have some good smoking places just don't take it home like cakes or tea as its still illegal.

You should certainly not go into the Red Light District, that's a place where ALOT of tourists go, and get mugged and robbed. I suggest you stay around the city centre, the canals etc. Amsterdam can be pretty dangerous if you don't know it. You could visit Het Anne Frank Huis, the building in which she hid during the deportation of the jews in Holland. Madame Tussaud is also an interesting visit, just like Het Rijksmuseum.

No fuel left for the pilgrims

Games Workshop is more expensive in Europe because shipping costs also have to be included.

I'd go to the Heineken Experience - I loved that place (it's a Heineken orientated museum, but it's pretty cool)

hehe, problem then is that the hostel they've booked us at is at the end of the red light district :shiftee:. hopefully its not the worst place to be, and hopefully you don't have to walk through the place to get somewhere.

hrm, i don't look forward to the hostel though...

oh and on the prices on GW stuff, we've got a strong currency these days, but GW refused to put the prices down accordingly to the rest of europe, so its pretty much cheaper anywhere but in Norway

Are you nuts! Dutch beer the best in the word. Dutch beer is like garbagewater compared to Belgian Beer.

Something tells me you're belgian.

Belgian beer is some of the most vastly overrated brews of all time. The best beers have always been (and probably always will be) british and polish. No doubts about it - and that's coming from an established ale drinker

Can I remind you that the best beer is the world is Belgian, and that German beer and dutch beer really taste like water with a bit of flavour. Of course, there are over a thousand beers here in Belgium, so I don't know which beers you've tasted.

Then why go all the way to Holland to get Games Workshop stuff? Just go to Sweden! All of us Norwegians know stuff is cheap there. [/Humorous]

Hey, this is a thing of taste guys, no point of arguing over the taste of beer.
Why argue it anyways, he said he didn't drink. Much... Or something...

More specifically, there is much better things to do than drinking a liquid you can get at home as well.

Plus, it's Amsterdam, there's bound to be something to do.

I go with what Matias said, go and see the Anne Frank House (The Queue 1), Madame Tussaud maybe (The Queue 2), the Dam, maybe a museum, if possible take a tourboat over the water, we did that, was pretty good.

http://www.iamsterda...iting_exploring May have some ideas.

Hope you have fun there :p.

thanks, i will probably be positively surprised as i have a bit of doubt about the hostel. i should probably drop by those places, although i have a suspicion that queue1 and 2 means alot of waiting . it would have been interesting to see the nightwatch painting aswell, but i dunno how much time i will have when i'm not out looking at new media stuff...

I like Guatemalan beer... Siberian Vodka, Austrian thick brown stuff brewed my monks, Mexican Mezcal distilled by naked virgins (I watched to make sure they did it right), and VB when already too drunk to notice some joker replaced your Jim Beam with a Victorian Bitter.
Conclusion, beer is dull, go see sights, speak dutch real s l o w - l i k e, with an obvoius american accent, and generally give tourists a bad name, then just go to the import section of your local liqour store when you get back.

i neither drink, smoke or do drugs. thats all there is to that really.

hmm, long queue yeah, i think it won't be too attractive to go there. i'll probably be able to spot something interesting there though.

I was just in Amsterdam a week ago, and I wasn't all that impressed. The crowds were horrible and there wasn't all that much to do. When we went there we stayed for half a day, got sick of it, and then went to visit Utrecht which I found was a much nicer city.

My cousin really wanted to go to the Anne Frank house, but like blaat said, the queue went for almost a block and my uncle refused to wait in line. We instead went to Madame Tussauds wax meseum which was fairly interesting and not overly busy, but it was pretty expensive.
