This has been one of my favorite news stories in the media recently. Mostly because a good coup every now and then keeps the government fresh and on their feet. Constantly reminded that if they do not submit to the peoples will they will be forced to. I do not have all of the facts but it seems that the PM was pulling a bush - figures as much.

However, I think that it is just like any other coup that has happened in the past twenty or so years. Both sides are wrong, and they end up causing a lot more problems than they solve because they cannot agree to compromise.

Btw, Casojin I hope your father is alright, Im sure he will be fine though as it appears to be pretty peaceful - as peaceful as un coup d'état can get. And to Shocker, there is no real need to go off insulting people just because you disagree. If you disagree then explain why, and use logic.

"Both sides are wrong" >>> Hmm I think the คณะการปฏิรูประบอบประชาธิปไตยอันมีพระมหากษัตริย์ทรงเป็นประมุข is the right side. Most people agree with them and there have been no violence yet (although a bit traffic/political mess and I heard 3 shots recently shooting the sky). 19m people voted for Thaksin, he have the most percentage but the whole bunch who didnt vote dislike him. The Thaksin voters didn't want to do anything since the military is "controlling" the country now. Thaksin is at London and can't/won't come back and there will be an election (not sure but obviously the current PM is stamped). The anti-PM is supported by the royals and military force. Suwanaphum airport will NOT delay the opening since the actual deadline is Nov2005. The pressure hasn't exploded (no shots to citizen). And I still wonder why Thaksin says:

I'm still in charge of my country :)

Oh and @ Drewly: There is so many reasons why I h8 Thaksin so much, and everyone in Thailand knows that

"Most people agree with them" cannot be judged by the media or you. It can only be decided by election (as written in the law). There are so many people who keep quiet for a long time and are still being quiet to avoid conflict.

If we really want to be real democracy, then we should learn to start accepting the majority of people. But from what I see, when the majority of the election chose Thaksin, the other side just accused him more. This is not what "democracy" means. From the past til now, there are always coups when the military was not satisfied with the situation. If that's the case, our country shouldn't call ourselves democracy at all.

Democracy - people rule, only works if the people do the ruling. If they are apathetic and do nothing, then it will transfer to Autocracy.

Can't believe I haven't seen this...it isn't on our news at all for some reason.

It's to be presumed that those enacting the coup haven't done so with the public support. These things tend not to happen with public support.

One way or another, this'll sort itself out. I just hope it doesn't become a despotism, and that it doesn't break out into a fullbore civil war. :(

military coups are not good in the long run. even in thailand now the military is censoring media from critizising them, and such things usually leads to people being arrested for saying what they really have a right to say. its a short step from military coup to full blown dictarorship as for example Burma.

i don't think you would have liked that communists infiltrated the british military and used them to arrange a coup to turn britain into a communist country where you would be arrested for posting on this very forum because there are people with illegal opinions on it.

edit:
yeah, paradox, thats what i probably was saying in a more polite manner

Ali believes that:

1) Poor people should stay poor
2) Poor people shouldn't be allowed into uni because they're inferior
3) Women shouldn't be allowed to vote
4) Poor people shouldn't be allowed to vote
5) There should be more military coups across the globe.

With such bigoted/attention whoring standpoint, I saw little point but to derisively point out that his politics are from the Dark Ages.

1) Poor people should stay poor

http://forums.revora...opic=39278&st=0

Yes but the class system ensures that people have personal freedoms and don't be ridiculous what would happen if we had no police pure chaos and crime thats what. The fact that the upper classe's have the burdern or governing on them, the Middle Classe's have the burdern of their business's and the employment of the lower classes.

2) Poor people shouldn't be allowed into uni because they're inferior

http://forums.revora...opic=39278&st=0

I do belive in a class system yes, a class system keeps order and control in an atomised society in the uncertain world. Many people I know who are clever and running succesful business's didn't go to university. So if we didn't have a media or education system Kal what we have the council of high wisdom? [...] We need to preserve the grammar school and traditional univeristy system as without it the United Kingdom would not be what it is today, I think the University system should be much more selective far to many people under 'nue labour' have been given the false conception that they should go to univerisity to do some fake subject like 'media studies' or 'journalism'.

3) Women shouldn't be allowed to vote

http://forums.revora...opic=39278&st=0

And Ash don't be silly, I'm fully against woman having the vote it anoys me a lot when I see so many apathetic women around now.

4) Poor people shouldn't be allowed to vote

http://forums.revora...opic=39278&st=0

The lower classes and ordinary people do not have the interlect or the political thoughts to ingage in such a manner, it would be like putting the Daily Express into power you would have burnings of noncers in the streets and asylum seekers would be stoned.

5) There should be more military coups across the globe.

(In this thread)

I think its nice to have coups, more effective that voting anyway.

One-nil.

Twiste words Ash, twisted words. The fact that this coup is popular in Thailand shows that the people supported this, the King supports it. There was a political crisis there already as it was, they have sorted it! The military is only trying to keep the country from turning into chaos.

The army and the police prevent us from killing each other and running naked through the streets

If the military hand over power willingly to a democratic candidate who is better than Thaksin, i'll be very surprised

the King supports it.

I don't think his Majesty the King support it. He had said earlier that things had to be done in democracy way and he couldn't just assign a new PM since it was not democracy way. I think in this situation, his hands were forced to do as the military coup in order to keep peace.

And military rule is terrible.

Perhaps you should read that Kal, Time called his regime a 'blow to Thai democracy' the fact if you read about him and his family conections with the Shin Corporation. Military will be able to run the country, their Loyalty to the King pleases me being a Royalist myself I would do the same. Makes me wish we had a coup in the UK. And Ash you twisted half my words and gramatical mistakes I never ment to say about the women issue you've either changed it or it was my spelling mistake I said I hate women who don't vote or are not politically active because of what they have fought for in the past, the rest of them were quotes from various Conservative and Liberal idealists. Nice to see when an admin threatens to kill me I get a warning as well thanks Codecat.
