So what exactly does Vista have that XP doesn't? I still view it as an unnecesarry upgrade that we will be made to buy anyways because when MS stops supporting it's older OS's - by a strange twist of fate everyone else stops writing shit for them as well.

DirectX 10, improved security, improved stability, new GUI. Those are just what I can think of off the top of my head. I'm pretty sure there are a bunch more.

Once the games start requiring Vista to run, I'll move to Ubuntu or any good Linux distribution. I don't like the Trusted Computing concept of Vista, neither the fact that users are either treated as retards and criminals.

Feature List.

Yeah well, to sell your product you have to get people to buy your product. If MS was still supporting those few Win95 users it would cost them money. its not a nice strategy, but it is how world markets work.

Holy moley, Ive had a Vista Theme pack running on my comp for some time now, and didn't even know it :p I recently decided that I hated it. As a modder, I keep all my tools out on my desktop, and need fast and easy navigation. Vista's navigation systems just didn't do it for me. So, I use the Theme pack when I am relaxing (Surfing the Web, Listening to music, doing nothing), and turn it off and go back to XP when I have work to do. Don't get me wrong, I didn't install Vista itself, just a themepack that configures your interface to look and act like it. Whatever :excl:

I think Microsoft can just suck on it, having just read the wikipedia bit on Trusted Computing, and also the changelist. I had no intention on switching at any rate, but I have even less inclination now.

You're going to have to change to it either way. Once DX10 comes out you can say bye bye to things that support DX9. Go figure. It's Microsoft's strategy to make you buy it.

Someone's hax'll sort that out. Or I'll stick with the old skool  Games will support both for a while anyway, purely because it's not good business sense to leave out your old customer base. OoOOo, your newest shaders make the game look an iota better than they currently do. Fuck-a-doodle-do. Get a load of oblivion on my rig, and tell me how bad DX9 shaders look. Fuck them all.

You can emulate, but it would certainly gobble up more resources than the original. Either way nobody will bother most likely, not when it's not just DirectX that would be needed to emulate a Vista enviroment on XP.

DirectX 10 is not possible on XP. It depends far too much on the new Device Driver model in Vista to even be remotely possible. Among other things, Vista will bring with it improved stability (with graphics and sound finally out of the kernel level, so the system should be able to survive the drivers crashing).

Go Ubuntu!

Honestly, with this trusted computing that doesn't trust the user, but trust the hacker, I won't buy it. I'll stay with XP and use Ubuntu (or any other user friedly Linux distro) with emulation if needed.

What are you talking about? Trusted computing is about protecting your data (and any DRM'ed content). One use of the TC chip is to allow you the encryption of your hard drive, with the keys stored in the TPM chip. If someone wants your information, they need to get it off of your computer using your user and your Operating System. They can no longer just pull the hard drive and get it, as the system uses strong encryption, and the keys are stored in the motherboard on the TPM chip. I'm not sure why everyone is so against TC, but it certainly isn't nearly the horrible proposition that everyone makes it out to be.
