I think it's gonna be the US of A & the Middle Eastern countries.

Not to be racist, but I heard many rumors America is invading these countries because they're rich in oil.

What do you guys think?
Will it happen?
What countries will be involved and why?

That would hardly be a World War. More of a stompfest as "Shock and Awe" takes its toll on each individual country and then the long task of occupying those countries proves untenable. I'm personally more worried about our friend Mr. Putin in Russia.

indeed, they are by the image that i got of them turning paranoid, racistic and nationalistic, killing journalists that are critical against the government and the likes. the middle east does not have the soldiers to start a world war unless the western world wants to grab some oil.

You mean Taiwan right?

And yes, that is quite a hotspot for possible war. However, I think the Chinese government has proven itself to be very level headed these days. I don't think they will do anything to irrational.

If there will really be a WW3 and power has not totally changed, then none of the superpowers will be able to lean back and watch. So count on the USA (because they have participated in almost every bigger war in the last 100 years), Russia (because they don't want to fall behind) and China (because they'd think their time has come). And since it should be a world war, throw in some of the european countries (yes, if they have not started one, then they must at least be there) and probably also some other country like Iran aswell.

Not really likely, but it's what I can think of...

You can't say it is a World War before the superpowes have entered, and the war in the end has troops from all over the planet.
So, for World War 3, we would need USA, and as I understand Russia.
I'm not sure, but I believe China is a canidate.
So now we have N. America, Europe and, Asia on the list of world parts at war. Then we need S. America, Oceania, and Africa to join the fun carnage, for this to be a World War 3

So, therefore, I will personaly kill whatever reporter says World War 3 as soon as USA and Russia starts a fight.

In that case, which may very well be true, I will start stocking up on Napalm and Chlorine gas since I'm from Norway.

A world war doesn't necessarily need every continent and subcontinent to be involved. It's just when there is military action spread all over the world and when many nations send a lot of troops. I myself wouldn't think that South America would participate in a WW3...

In the late 1940's, when Mao Zedong and the communists took over China, Chiang Kai-Shek and his Nationalist army fled to the island of Taiwan on American war ships. Here, Chiang Kai-Shek formed the Republic of China (although widely known as solely Taiwan), and on the mainland, Chairman Mao formed the People's Republic of China.

Since the 1940's there has been tension between the mainland and Taiwan. The People's Republic of China thinks the Republic of China (mainly the island of Taiwan) is rightfully theirs and wish to take it back by force. However, America, who has been Taiwan's ally since Chiang Kai-Sheck stepped onto their war ship in the late 1940's, has vowed to protect Taiwan if the Mainland shouold try an invasion.

Hence Taiwan is a hotspot for a potential Sino-American war, which could possibly lead to a world war.

I dont know much about the history of Thailand, but I sincerely doubt that it wants to "break off from China" and possibly cause a war between China and the USA.

I know he said Thailand, but I sincerely doubt thats what he meant.

P.S. How does this make my knowledge of Geography bad?

History of Taiwan i know since i'm 9 (i had my birthday there).
Thailand never want to be related to any wars. We are a peaceful country regardless Thaksin and coups. :)
This makes ur geo bad cause you can't see the spelling difference between "Thailand" and "Taiwan" ;)

Being american, I can tell you that WWIII ( which is already in the works) will involve Iran, Pakistan, maybe Iraq.., Israel..hell The whole middle east will be involved somehow.
And now we have this " Korean Nuclear crisis" which will eventually get messy , China will get involved and possibly Russia.

This war will be unlike any other at its peak, with the threat of third world dictators getting their hands on nukes and chemical/biologicalweapons.

Its going to be the end for some countries.

OK, checked wikipedia.

Basicaly, a world war is a military conflict (Fluffy term for war), involving or affecting the majority of the worlds nations.

World War I
World War II

So if USA and China go to war, we have about 17,1% of the worlds population involved. No world war.
Let's add russia. 17,4% are now in the direct combat zone, no groups powerfuly affected as far as I can see.
And India, there has been a sinoindian war or two. Wow, 33,8% percent! Only two thirds though.
Lets add the European Union too! 50%! Now ,we're talking!

I have now made USA, EU, Russia and India go to war, and it is barely enough. That all these countries are at war will probably affect Africa, the rest of Asia and S. America, but how likely is it that all these nations goes to war?

My conclusion: No world war in a long time.

I used Wikipedia and CIA World Factbook in this study.

You would proberly have a Western alliance composed of EU, North America and various Western alliances like Australia and Japan vs a united Arab, Russian, Chinese force. It will all start with Israel and Iran gradually increasing as more countrys get dragged in.

Should be a nice short more, 50 minutes as the MIRV's re-enter in geo-syncal orbit.
