As some of you might know already a new version of the rock patch has been released. This new version has some very heavy-duty features, mainly the ability for aircraft to fire at each other. Now I know many of you will be jumping up & down for joy as this means that I could get rid of the jumpjet fighters in D-day which many of you have complained about & use a more realistic system. However I’ve decided to keep the jumpjet fighters tho as there are serious gameplay limitations with using true aircraft for A2A.

One of the other new features that will be handy tho is the addition of the unused dropship loadout from TS, I’ll have to look into it some more but it could be used for glider reinforcements etc.

Dang Checked RP little more than a week ago and nada.

Now out of the blue, a new update with AA ;)

This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Andre 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Are you going to use planes or jumpjets in LS for the fighters?

If they work, they work ;)
I'll have to play about, but know that I don't like jumpjets. I'll probably use the new feature, even if its not true A2A should be good for intercepting and contour fighting, and basically, I'd be happy with that. Besides, thats what they were made for and I'm emphasising ground command, you can build aerial destroyers, but navy and air branches are mainly limited support, although in D-Day I'd expect aerial combat to play a greater role...

The only WW2 mod other then D-day is Blitzkrieg but I'm not sure where you can d/l it.

As for good mods I recommend Mental Omega & Robot Storm

The fact is aircraft never cold really target things like in generals. Still can't. I say stick with jumpjets just for the defense and engagement advantages.

Although, the new A2A aircrafts would make for perfect cold war style bomber-interceptors.
Being a total douche.

I'm sure you choose the best way, Miggy.
But anybody plz discrib more about how this A2A like? Unable for auto-targeting? Do you mean that by "bomber-interceptors", Rattuskid?
And what eles limits?

Haven't had a chance to test but presumably it'll just be normal pad aircraft with the capability to target air units. So no autotargeting, but if you can spot the incoming aircraft, select your own, and click on the fast moving target...

... or hope it will hit that aircraft so it will retaliate :p (aircrafts still can retaliate if hit, as long as they'll have CanRetaliate=yes)

And wh"bomber-interceptors", Rattuskid?

Er, I meant interceptors, which are larger, less agile, but pack far more operational range than air-superiority fighters. A key element in cold war aerial planning before ICBMs replaced the 24/7 nuclear bomber fleets. They would work better under the system that they have a specific target to fly out and engage, as opposed to fighters which would ideally (but simply cannot) get a guard-air-space option like in Generals.

Thx Rattuskid, I got it. But there is not much of this kind? the only typical I can tell is Voodoo, even 105 and Phantom are much different, right?

And can this 1.08SE A2A allow Aircraft Carrier fighters A2A now? It will be cool to have in D-Day and Blitz, and no auto-targeting mess.

And that's ok you make fighters jumpjets, MIGgy, but you can also enable pad fighter-bombers/attackers as P-47 the A2A ablity, and even those off-map B17s :p

The soviets made more of those types of things, but I can't think of specifics off the top of my head. Well past the timeline of D-day though, regardless.

and even those off-map B17s :p

Impossible as far as I know, because called in planes always target that one specific cell, and A2A independant target aquisition does not work. An AA escort in the B17 formation would either just fire it's MGs at the ground, or turn around and go home after touching the cell's air column.
Being a total douche.

maybe those negative prerequisits could be usefull for getting more "timeline´ish realism" (building advanced techcentre PIV ausf A gets replaced by PIV ausf B or something like that)
and i think the feature of units promoting to other units could be really interesting for similar stuff :p

That was the first thing I thought of for the negative prerequisits but then reasoning kicked in & I remember that there is already 600-700 ish units already, do I really need to add more..!

I’m thinking of things that could be done with the new promoting system atm. I could do things like the T-34 turning into an OT-34 when elite, or Fireflys getting 5lb rockets etc. If anything tho it could be used to add kill rings to the units barrel :p

So D-Day will be using both promotion systems or just one?
Victory rings, battle damage, mwah-wha-haw-ha-ha-ha-he-he-ho-ho, I'm pleased I only have a couple of dozen units, but be sensible Mig! :p
