NOOO!!! Darn, I was hoping he would make it :( They might have messed up the story line in the movies, but you've go to edit it to make it presentable. Overall I say he did a great job on the Trilogy, its a real shame he won't be doing this one...

I will be happy if the hobbit matches up to the standards of the trilogy, if not i will be rather pissed off with the big companies decisions. :(

What a disappointment. I was really looking forward to seeing The Hobbit in movie theaters, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen (at least anytime soon). :(

This is like asking another director to do a Star Wars prequel for Knights of the Republic. It's feel would just not be the same.

This is bad news indeed.

 Best news I've heard in a long time, thanks 2play :p

What the...?

uhm, I think, AND HOPE, that he means that the hobbit is comming as a movie...

other than that, SUX BIG T

it will not be the same, hell, I even doubt that the actors that aren't money lover will make it.... like gandy, he likes the books, right? and he's a good friend of PJ, and I doubt, and hope, that they will have to find new actors, for all the characters.... only, they don't do a BFME2, and mess something up to much.... ;) no, nothing offencive :scars:

anyways, I'll end up in the cinema, and I'll see it, and other than the fact that LOTR is one of the best movies I've ever seen, and that the man that made it possible won't make it, I darn hope it's a good one... but, I hope that they won't find a new producer, so PJ get's to make it... and I totally agree with Hostile

I've seen some movies that's been done like this, but can't remember what....

well, what the heck, the movie is sure as hell going to be a must! :p
duh... ;)

EDIT: or, I don't care if it's the same actors or not, really, I just want it to be PJ :p

Knowing Zimoo, unlikely he meant that.

He doesn't really consider PJ his best friend, if you get my meaning. Reason? Straying too much from the books in the movies.

Personally, I'd prefer continuity, both in actors and director.

Like I always say, the beauty of the books is that they are what your imagination makes of them. I don't want to be influenced by a film maker's own visions when reading about characters/events (the main reason I like the Silmarillion so much).

honestly i think you have no right to complain. nobody is forced to watch the movies, PJ stayed rather true to the story, and where he made changes these were mostly not very significant to the main line. you can't convert a book to a film and not change it, because the book is often too large and/or scenes may not be as good in a movie. i think there are situations in the story where the movie version is actually better/more logical than the book, because LOTR the book, while great, isn't perfect (as nothing is). also, many many people would not even know there are LOTR books if it weren't for the movies (including me :)).

saying that this is good is like saying good when the tax rates for poor people are increased, but you don't care since you're not poor anyway :D

no offence, btw :p

I don't recall ever complaining anyway, I merely stated my opinion. Personally, I don't think there is a single scene in the films that was done better than it's counterpart in the books, but again that's just personal test. I like deep storylines and long descriptions, whereas others might just like lots of fight scenes.

No offence to anyone, but if you hadn't heard of LOTR before the movies came out you must have been living under a rock (or too young to know about them). None of my family are avid Tolkien fans(except me), but LOTR came up quite a lot in daily conversation, and I knew about it long before the films came out (although I didn't read it until recently)

yeah complaining might have been the wrong word, sorry

but again that's just personal test.

true, we will always need to remember that in these kinds of discussions

whereas others might just like lots of fight scenes.

you make it sound like the movies are fighting-only

No offence to anyone, but if you hadn't heard of LOTR before the movies came out you must have been living under a rock (or too young to know about them)

in my case that would be a bit of the latter and a bit that i don't live in an english-speaking country

I didn't mean to imply the movies are made up entirely of fight-scenes, but they are greatly expanded on (Helms Deep was not even a whole chapter in the books, it had to have taken up atleast about 1/4 of the film).

that's exactly what i mean. helms deep was so important, and yet it didn't even get it's own chapter. that's why i (myself personally in my humble opinion :)) like the movie version better
