Hi,

I've added a new faction to the game, and noticed it couldn't use any CAH, so i had a look into the code, only to find "UsableFactions =" in files for each CAH faction (ex: createaherosystemmenofthewest.ini)
I thought i found my problem, and tried to put my faction's name there, but when i launch the game, i have an error telling me my faction's name isn't valid.
I've checked my playertemplate.ini, everything looks fine.
I've looked in nearly all places, and i can't find the origin of this error.

Has anyone met this before?

Thanks

CAH cannot be used with custom/new factions. It is hardcoded (Apparently)

Yep, all of us coders have tried about everything to get this working, and to no avail :(

Hey Grim, when I was at CNC3 summit at EA this week I mentioned you as a master coder and mentioned your proximity upgrade for unit ugrades.

Where a unit could only upgrade thier horde when in proximity of a structure. I got a nod of amazement from one of the head guys.

Thank you for the answers, i'm quite disappointed new factions can't have CAH heroes :( I will see how to avoid this however.

@Hostile: Wow thank you for the great advertising :p but in fact this is false  , i did not manage to do this really.
In Herogrim i cheated so you cannot see the upgrade buildings unless you are close to it. Well a good code is sometimes about cheating efficiently the engine, but i can't call that a full success :(
Sorry to break the myth :(
However, it must be possible, i can try again if you are interested ^_^

Exactly what happened to me. Looked through and found no errors yet it said the faction name was invalid, must be hardcoded.

I don't know if it would help you but i managed to have CaH with a custom faction , by using a original faction 's word for side.

in fact , in the line "Side:" of my new faction in player templates.ini , I writed men and writed anther thing in lthe men's line "Side:"

with this new faction can have created heroes but not the men of the west anymore.

Thanks for your input.
Too bad they hardcoded the side parameters, because i really want to keep the other factions intact and add a brand new one.

I would like to say the same thing than you ched but if it is hardcoded... we can't really do anything... except finding a 'cheated way', now the question is opened, what way could we use?

Doesn't matter how it's done, if the end result is the same who cares, right?

Right!

However, Christmas brought me a nice gift it seems (an idea), i managed to build up a new way to manage unit upgrades in that direction.

Units or hordes have to enter the building (forge or whatever), they are displayed around awaiting for the upgrades, and through the buiding's commandset you can choose the upgrades to buy.
Units can only buy upgrades when in the building (they have to go to the baker to buy bread, NO UPS to deliver it to their location). Only available upgrades are shown (the upgrades they can buy). Every upgrade appear on the unit when bought (a texture or mesh is shown). And an attribute modifier (and/or weapon, armor upgrade) applies for every armor part or weapon chosen. You can change your mind on any choice, like taking a helm instead of a hood, a hammer instead of a sword.

So, when you receive a horde or unit, it is "naked" and you have to send it to the forge to give them stuff.
I took CAH models for a large variety of upgrades, and it looks like fun.

Sooner or later online

There is a cheat where you select the unavailable CaH, and then press the first letter on your keyboard. It will select your CaH so you can play it that game.
