Leave it as swords. As much as we'd like to keep to the books, the Rangers look better with swords and it puts less hassle on Celeglin.

Fair enough, but I think this thread is getting to an extreme level of spam.

I'm sure Celeglin is not going to give Rangers toggle - it would ruin the balance of the game.
Let's wait for Celeglin's reply and finish this topic.

In the books they had spears and bows.........

No. In the books some used spears, some used bows and they all carried swords. And you don't need thousands of years of practice to use a bow and sword..

I didn't say they didn't have swords, their main weapons are spears and bows :)
Why is everybody against me ;)

Nah...Swords and Bows. Its easy to practise with both sword and bow and its hard to practise with spear and bow....oh and impossible to bear both for they are big weapons. Not like good ol' swordy. ;) I'd love them with sticks though...looks like more nature-like. :)

You don't kill armored enemies with sticks...

OK, you don't need thousands years to learn how to fight with bow and sword, but Elves had. Ranger can't get toggle because of balance of the game. They were more skilled in using bow, too.

And there's no animations for Rangers with spears, I guess.

Edit: Well, Celeglin can always give Rangers clubs. Not suitable, but natural, and big, heavy club would knock armoured enemy unconscious.

This discussion is becoming weird...

Where does it say they were more skilled in using bows?

Playing games? Ah, you'll never be a good modder if you get involved in actually playing them!

It doesn't, probably. They just had more practise at it because they would always attack at range, relying on ambush to confuse and disorganise their foes, so most of the time they wouldn't have come to a melee.

Good, someone agrees with me :). But if you think about it logically, that's what would happen.

*waltzes in*

No toggle for Rangers. No spears either.

the rangers have ... knock-back with their swords

That is going to go, and to hell with balance. Looks bloody ridiculous.

The rangers don't need ANY, I repeat ANY changes at all! EA changed them perfectly (not perfectly but they're balanced in 1.03). And why throw away balance? I think it looks cool and it IS balanced.

But if you do change it :( then increase their sword damage at the least.

Seriously though. Rangers are fine. :p

This knockback doesn't make them balanced, but overpowered. Maybe reduce their cost to 550 to balance again?
