This knockback doesn't make them balanced, but overpowered. Maybe reduce their cost to 550 to balance again?

^^Give some examples where rangers' melee is overpowered? Because I can't think of any.

When a troll comes at them, and they knock him back, thus disabling his attack.

Or when a lone hero comes up.

Playing games? Ah, you'll never be a good modder if you get involved in actually playing them!

K then a simple solution would be to cancel their knockback against heroes and monsters.

I think it sould be taken away, then increase attack speed
I think they should be fast and lethel swordsmen, not really powerful blows

Well to be honest when you said the rangers should be fast and lethal swordmen and okay archers, that's the way they already are.

I didn't say anything about the bows, I said blows
The swords don't do lots of damage but will add up quickly

Thorontur, there's only a certain amount of crap I can take in the sake of balance. Stealthy archers who wield swords as a last resort just DON'T knock enemies back from their attacks (by all logic, even Boromir's knockback is a little ridiculous, but at least it makes a lick of sense there). It's a ridiculous little piece of crap fix that EA did in the name of balance (that's one of my biggest problems with patch 1.03: as nicely balanced as it was, a lot of the core attributes of the characters (Aragorn/Boromir's lacking damage, slow Elves, Ranger swords knocking back trolls, hobbits doing insane amounts of damage) were lost). I will do some work on the Rangers to make up for this "loss", but I won't lose sleep over it.

I think the increased attack speed will be enough, if not TOO BAD

I understand and agree with you in that there are lots of things in BfME that look silly, aren't true to the movies and are just inhumane. But the reason EA did things like give rangers machine-gun archery and knockback swords is for the sake of making them balanced counters to the things that used to wtfpwn them in 1.02. Don't get me wrong though changing these things so that they are more real to LotR is logical for a mod but for the sake of the game I would go to a length to make the game balanced so it works for not only for the LotR fans of us but also for the gaming aspect.

Celeglin will die if it is not true to lotr
I feel that as long as one faction doesn't completely own the others, it is ok. (for a mod)
Taking away the knock-back won't totally destroy balance

How about this: I remove the knockback, and greatly increase the attack speed of the Rangers' swords? Much more fitting, would you not say? I think the increased amount of damage for a given amount of time will counter the loss of a knockback.
