It Came From Red Alert! R2 is here!

Listing all the changes/fixes/additions here would be silly, and they can be read in the release notes, but I think this works as a quick summary:

This second beta expands on the first in many respects, notably in graphics. All building (temporary damage frames), vehicle and infantry graphics are in now. There are also a few game mode additions: Retro mode changes the voxels to mostly remapable versions, Contraction mode removes all the Counterstrike/Aftermath Expansion additions and Retro Contraction is a combination of the two.


Units I missed the first time round like the Chrono Tank, Flamethrower and Missile Sub are in, the Shock Trooper now has the correct sounds (how I missed those I don't know), alot of weapons screwups are fixed, etc.
I started doing new terrain, but have only done the "clear" tiles and one map. This doesn't break any of the RA2 standard maps so it's okay.

Got Juice?

There are one or two issues I know of:
Soviet Sidebar graphics glitches.
War Factory exit problems.
Mines are visible, this will be fixed using RP in a future version.
Torpedoes don't work on the new terrain (though the new terrain map doesn't allow naval forces so you shouldn't see this).
New terrain is far from complete.
Map start location numbers barely visible.

Revora is being a bit slow at the moment so you might have to bear with it.

Yeah that's a very nice game mode. However, the new train textures are not correctly placed, see the map with 4 starting spots named ICFRA and something after it. And the damage frames of the Concreate Wall aren't visible, Rifle Infantry can destroy every walls in 1 shot, and Rifle Infantry of the Soviets are named Conscripts.

What do you mean by not placed correctly?

I can't explain (damn English, why we not talk Dutch here), but take a look at the map I've said, near the water. The sand tiles are, well go look at it. :thumbsdownsmiley:

Oh that.
Yeh that's because the terrain is incomplete and I haven't modified those tiles.

There are one or two issues I know of:

When I try to start this mod or even the basic Yuri's Revenge (I have The First Decade), I get "Error - Unable to set the video mode". Anyone have any idea how I could correct this?

I've heard of that error for Red Alert, but not Red Alert 2/YR.
I'd suggest posting about it in a general RA2 forum.

I'm guessing its something to do with that RA movie at the start.(sorry if im stating the obvious) But i use TFD and everything worked fine... it maybe something to with the graphics card or something :grin:

Looking rather nice, great improvement over the previous. Downloading now.

Corrupt program now requires constant reboots and does not function at all in majority of instances. Designed with a web browser component to replace AOL, it has exceeded our expectations by being more crashy and unreliable and with worse tech support. We didn't think it was physically possible! A general product recall is advised; when it does function it seems to require background processes Girl 0.1Beta to stave off further crashes. Will someone PLEASE remove that code, and insert Backbone 1.9 in its place? That's assuming we even bother to continue this prog.

I played this For the first time today, and Im thoroughly impressed by your work !! It definetly brings back some good memories....

And heres my complaint...... Why does the flame tower not have flames ?! FlAME TOWER MUST HAVE FLAMES!! I KILL YOU!!

Just kidding :blush: I know It's just a Beta.

Err, flame tower and flamethrower infantry do have flames...
Though maybe because they shoot it so fast it's hard to see.
