today i was going to start modding rise of the witch king, i extracted the ini into the data folder then removied the original ini, i then started the game to make sure it would still work but now it says this when i start it;

an upgrade mask reference Upgrade_AngmarFaction which is not an Upgrade

Error parsing field 'triggeredBy' in block 'Object' in file 'Data\INI\Object\civilian\amonsulbuildings.ini' line 259

i dont get it becuase the game works fine with the original ini and i havent done anything to this one either, i have uninstalled and reinstalled but it doesnt do anything.

This is one hte most frustrating problems ever.

The problem is simple to fix, in order to make RotWK mods via ini files extraction, you also have to extract all of the BFME2 ini files:

ergo (for me) I have:

G:\Games\The Battle for Middle-Earth II\data\ini with all the data files for BFEM2

and

G:\Games\The Battle for Middle-Earth II - The Rise of the Witch-King\data\ini

As the one for RotWK. Once you have both dirs with all files extracted, then your done :p

Also this problem can be fixed by running your mod with -mod command. Atleast thats how I fixed it. When I put my mod files to the main folder I get the same error but when done with -mod command there is no problem.

If it's a public mod, that's fine, but it's more than frustrating having to edit your files and then rebig them everytime.

And before anyone jumps on the "FinalBig allows editable .big files" don't. I've had enough problems with that method.

Apparently you don't even need to rebig it, you can also specify a certain folder to use with the -mod command (ask 2play, he does it this way I think).

And before anyone jumps on the "FinalBig allows editable .big files" don't. I've had enough problems with that method.

2playgames wrote a tutorial on this key element of modding BFME. Check it out

And yes, you don't have to pack them each time, you can simply leave them unpacked, as long as the folders are structured like in the ini. :blink:
