The Iranian government's boasts of "great achievements" included an announcement on Saturday that Iranian scientists have "introduced an AIDS cure".

"After seven long years of arduous work, Iranian scientists here on Saturday introduced a herbal medicine which cures Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)," Fars reported.

"The drug named 'IMOD' is completely effective and safe with no proven side effects," Iran's Minister of Health Kamran Bagheri Lankarani claimed during a ceremony.

"The world should know today that the capable Iranian nation, relying on its own youths and scientists, has now conquered the peaks of knowledge and science," Ahmadinejad declared during his speech.

I guess it fails to mention that the cure involves therapy with dangerously high levels of radiation...

Don't get me wrong, I don't imagine this 'cure' of theirs to be real (or to be without its side effects), but I am intrigued as to what they're claiming is the cure.

Considering there are thousands of research scientists in first-world countries led by some of the most brilliant minds in immunology studying HIV and only HIV every day, and they've been doing it for years, and they have found only drugs which can suppress the spread of HIV practically indefinitely, I find it highly unlikely Iran has achieved anything even close to a cure.

it seems though that Iran is doing a Nod-thing though, charm the poor countries around the world into becoming hostile towards the west.

What I'd like to know, before I believe that cure works, is, what does this cure do? How does it stop the virus? Does it prevent further infection? Where does it attack the virus (or the human body)? Does it attack gp120? gp41? Gag? VIF? Integrase? Reverse transcriptase? How does it work on biochemical level? In the first term this year I had a project where we had to point out a target for further research to get a possible cure.
