Hi! i made this topic so people can discuss what are the important battles that took place during World War 2.

I will start with....
Battle for Midway---in this battle, Japanese want to take the island of midway because they think its vital to their operation for invading USA :p ...not sure............... BTW MigEater are u going to include this battle in your mission for america/allied?

P.S.
If this topic is not appropriate you, (MigEater) can delete...................... :p

well I don't think even a Japanese victory of Midway would lead to a invasion of USA. If the IJN did try land some troops on the west coast, no, even Hawai, they are most likely to be arested by local police, as illegal immigrants, due to their poor supply suport :thumbsupsmiley: .
.....................................off topic stopped here...........................................................
seriously, a Midway mission is what I dreamed, but how to make it like a real Midway? I mean the recon played the most important role there, but in game carriers will be found too easily by jumpjet fighters?
BTW, how to callback and repair jumpjet fighters with carriers is yet another question... A2A spawn fighters may solve this, but personally it's unfair to those brave SBD pilots to be ignored, as there could be only one kind spawn plane.
While the battle of Guadalcanal and south pacific may be easier to make in game, as it's not a "single hit decide" battle.

All you need to know: http://en.wikipedia....attle_of_Midway

A Midway mission would only consist of naval units so there wouldn’t be any jumpjet fighters anyway but I’d probably add a spyplane SW tho.

Feel free to post any topics relating too WW2 or early cold war here BTW

I dont realy know how MigEater will do the Battle for Midway IF his going to put it as a campiagn/mission for allied; or maybe he can do it as Japanese mission/campaign where they capture the Midway island where they build there base their to try to invade US.

He might include the batttle for Midway as part of of his other mission :thumbsupsmiley: ..im not really sure.

The other Major battle that i also knew that took place in pacific island of Philippines (Battle for Leyte Gulf). Its when MacArthur return to the Philippines as he promise to Filipino people. They have major land and sea battle their. I think its the biggest sea battle that american forces fought during WW2. And also its the battle where Japanese send their big ship YAMATO....not sure.BTW im not really sure about the battle that took place in the Philippines.....i doubt there is more battle that took place in Philippines.........u guys know any.

Any major battle u guys know/knew........ ;)

Operation Downfall would have been the biggest pacific battle (well the biggest battle in history TBH) but then the Japanese surrendered before it started so I guess it doesn’t really count. Would love to do several missions based on it tho.

That would be nice to include EXTRA mission/campaign for the allied :thumbsupsmiley: ......but..its your choice. for me it would be awsome......u can put it as post-war campiagn, it might work (or NOT) ;)

BTW in the Philippines you can do multiple mission their.

Doolittle's Raid to Tokyo can be a interesting small mission, no need to say more.
And the defence of Guadalcanal, tho less famous and not so dramatic as Midway, is the real turning point of Pacific, and ideal for a mission. It consists long combats in all dimensions, air, sea, land, day and night(the Tokyo Delivery?). It was the final battle of some famous IJN BBs and BCs, dono their English name tho. And it consumed the last drop of blood of the long trained pre-war pilots of IJN/IJA, since then Allied pilots began their "Turkey Hunt." The defence of Port Moresby in south Pacific is similar, but less scale, less main fleets.

@Sudeki: Yes YMT was there, and survived until Okinawa. But Her only sister ship sank there.

@MigEater: Thanks to my government I can't open Wiki ;) . But remember there were B17s tryed bombing but missed?
Jumpjet can be build from navalyard. And if no jumpjets, then 1 US carrier of Wildcats, other 2 for SBDs?? It's a little...strange :thumbsupsmiley: And the Wildcats on the groundfield, are ignored?

Can’t view Wiki :thumbsupsmiley: I'm guessing your Chinese then?

I have no set layouts for missions yet so can’t answer any detailed questions regarding them. I’d rather get the main part of the mod finished before I start thinking about missions TBH.

@MigEater: Don't think that's a language problem. It's seems by my beloved government :)
It's even not a problem of not democrate and media control, it's a problem of stupit. To ban such a famous website helps nothing to their ruling, while we can find everything somewhere eles
So much for that, back to topic.
I think we may need some fighters can be independent from the carrier control(which means jjets or plane-Locomotor-NavalVehicle) as escorts, to make a Midway looks like Midway.
Yet still some problems: to make AI start with bombing the island, player will know their position and directly send SDBs while Japanses carriers are empty; to make AI free hunt, AIs will always know where players are, so the 4 IJN carriers will go directly to release all their torpedo bombers...neither seems like a Midway, which is full of recon/anti-recon ;)
Anyway, I belive you will make a best balance between historical and gameplay ;)

@Sudeki: How about Montgomery's plan? that's "what if Market-Garden is won and following go to berlin". It's not realised, but it should be big enough. :p
Donno whether your " Europe" includes Russia, if yes, try find HUGE battles there :D

@Lego: Russia is part Europe and Asia but most part is Asia, I think Russia's 3/4 territory is part of Asia and 1/4 is part of Europe......remember Russia is occupied by 2 continent :D .

BTW battle for Stalngrad might be good too as part of Mig's Campiagn/mission for Russia ;)

@MigEater: MigEater, are you going to include Battle for Stalingrad as part of your Campan when its time to do the campiagn for ur D-day mod?

I'm not sure how well Stalingrad would work... Kursk would be ace, both sides just throwing everything they can at each other, but not sure how well a man holding out against a company in an elevator would work. Although to me it raises an interesting point; how good will tanks be in city fighting situations?

well the brits need some good commando missions, like pegasus bridge I think.

of course El Alamein, taking the briges on the Rhine before the germans blow them up (that sort of thing)
apologising to the world on behalf of my country for the existence of Brussel sprouts and Jean Claude Vandame

"I'm not retreating, I'm just fighting in another direction" (anonymous US corporal, Korea)

work is sacred...so don't go near it.

About a possible Midway - reckoning could be very usefull if only Reckon planes can fly in shroud. Also, shroud should regrow at a rapid speed to emulate not seing anything.

Tanks in a city combat - that would be hard to ballance. But will the Russian army have Molotov coctails? Also, some civilians with rifles, pistols, rocks etc. small arms would be really cool.

Well in LS tanks have minimum ranges, so in tight spots...
Thought similar would work well here; once the infantry are close enough they're bound to find some way in, and the tank can't do much back... But I imagine it would get annoying in big Tank v Tank battles if you got too close ;)

Tanks in urban environments are cannon fodder, you’ll need infantry to clear out any buildings or lots of artillery to just flatten everything.

How can you do missions anyway if D-Day covers so many time periods... unless of course you did just cover major battles which would be interesting.
