Hi,
I generally don't turn my pc off at night, and when I do I just powerboot it, but I didn't seriously think it would harm it... This morning someone threw something on it and it went off for a while, I was able to get it back on and continued doing my stuff... Then I was watching the PotC 3 trailer, and I continuedly slapped my computer (can't really explain why) on the front, but when I got to the left-hand corner, it turned off and hasn't come on again since.

I don't have to worry about losing anything because I plugged the hard drive into another computer and extracted the files I need, but this still leaves me without a computer of my own. So what do I do? I highly doubt my parents would get me another one before my birthday, and they might not even do it then...

I tried using a different power cord (of the same brand) and tried taking out my battery and plugging/unplugging it but it still won't turn on...

I will try to do my modding on another computer, but the one that is available the most often has a finicky connection, and the one with the best connection is my brother's, and he will need to use it sometimes. Either way, I will have to install the modding programs over again, and modding will be alot slower...

Please tell me how I might be able to fix my computer or if it is beyond fixing, what kind of computer I would be best to have so I can ask my parents for it for my birthday...

(PC had a one year warranty which expired shortly before Christmas)

I was advised to post this in here... Since then I have tried to take the computer apart to see if it is just that the power button is malfunctional... but I can't get the stupid thing open!

I HAVE recovered what I think I need, my mod, my artwork, and my creative writing and art, along with a few small programs I didn't want to have to look for again!

I think your power supply or motherboard could be broken but I'm not an expert. You can try to open it but as you posted that failed. Perhaps ask one of your parents? You could also try to take it to the shop where you bought it (or another shop) and see what they say (it may cost you something, though). What kind of battery did you take out, was/is your computer a laptop?

It would be easier if I could take a look but teleporters don't exist yet.

If it is unfixable (I can't tell you that for sure from over here; the shop will be able to tell you that, they could also check if it is just one part that's broken so you only would have to replace that part, I think they did that for my old computer several years ago) then I (and other people around here) can tell you a bit of what kind of computer you could buy depending on what you want of your system and how big a budget your parents would give you for your birthday.

EDIT oh and be careful with a computer in the future . You may just want to switch it off at night if you don't use it, it costs power (and therefore money) as well as more risk (thunder at night, earthquakes, grey aliens ). I'm not sure what you mean by powerboot.. do you mean like standby status or hibernating?

I'm glad you could recover all you need, at least your hard drive isn't damaged.

I hope my post helps you a bit.

My computer blew itself up several weeks ago. Gladly I could rescue most files off my hard drives . Electronic devices are revolting against us!

My computer still has less RAM than my PDA, and my PDA's bluetooth keeps rebelling (possibly because I rewrote bits for my headphones) and my headphones down button went all funky! Sweet, sweet technology...
I say if you get it fixed, don't hit it

My computer iswas a laptop...

From what I saw when I tried to open it, the hard drive was on the opposite side, the memory was in the middle and the only thing on the side I hit it was the cd drive...

I asked for advice on BoG forums, and they suggested I get a Bell-Packard if my computer can't get fixed, can you give me any info on that?

Power-booting is turning it off by holding down the power button...

Lastly, I don't think it would be a good idea to have to pay money to get it fixed, because it may be more efficient to use that money to get a new pc that will hopefully last longer than a repaired pc...

As I repair laptops, it sounds like the motherboards gone which basically means its not economically worth repairing. Even if you can get the new motherboard for it then there's a chance something else would usually its graphics related. Also the charges are high, I know my place charges around £99 for the labour and I've never seen a successful repairs when the MB's gone. What was split on it?

Some laptops are a nightmare to take apart, you often can end up breaking the plastic as some of the cheaper brands use glue and cheap screws to hold the thing together.

Before making drastic changes, make sure nothing came loose. Knocking ANY connection, over time will pry it loose. From steel girders, to chairs, to wooden blocks, to, ahem, computers, it happens. Also, the screws are often covered by plastic tags, rubber pads, panels and batteries. Since your warranty has already expired, peeling off any plastic tags about warranties won't really matter.

TO OMEGABOLT: Check that there's no magnets near your screen, and make sure that your refresh rate is at a speed that your screen can support. Lastly, maybe you need glasses? (jk)

TO CHED: Try pulling the space bar out and cleaning the underside. I do it all the time when my keys don't work anymore. Just make sure you don't have any "unneeded" or "leftover" pieces when you finish. You may not like the results. Also, make sure the spacebar is right side up when you finish. Often, the key will seem to fit, but is not in correctly and may cause the keyboard to malfunction. If you have a cleaning utility, try it, but often, if the object is sticky, that won't do B.S. to fix it.
