I really dislike reality TV. Where can I sign a petition .

The first Big Brother (in the Netherlands) wasn't too bad, everything after that was just stupid, boring and dumb. There seems to be a lot of "reality" TV on nowadays (here at least) and it's just not interesting and annoyingly stupid. I'm putting reality between quotes because it often does not resemble reality.

I'm not great at saying why I don't like reality TV, but I'll have a good 80s or 90s comedy or a good sci-fi or crime series over reality TV anyday.

Very much agreed, when I hear or see that on TV I just turn it off. The amusement factor is below 0, I mean if I want to see people make an ass of themself I can go the pub and see that.. I can even particpate myself but sitting down and watching it on TV :/

Bring back the old shows

I hate the so called "Reality" TV, it doesn't seem so real to me, IMO it's all fake and scripted.

I'll sign your petition.

Nah, reality shows are great for the hilarious intrigues and it gives me a moral boost. No matter how low i go, i will never reach the level of retardness of some the partitioners.

Though i do agree, alot of it looks scripted.

alot of the great innovations happens in tv-series these days. hollywood is being beaten by good tv-shows that pwn practically all blockbusters. one can claim that because of all of these great shows that come onto our tv-screens, you have to get alot of bad ones too. if it wasnt for reality tv, people might never have had the chance to make lost or battlestar galactica or heroes and the likes.

reality tv does suck nonetheless.

ah yes. i'm not sure about the rest of the world, but in the Netherlands we now have lots of shows with old, forgotten, B-class "celebrities" doing funky things like dancing on ice, losing weight, etc.....go away!

lol, and you post this about a week before Big Brother 8 starts down here... Probably the same night as Australian Biggest Looser II ends, and as soon as BB finishes, Australian Idol 5 is due...
The problem with Australian Biggest Looser is, quite simply, they're all loosers. The original American series (as if showing Australian reality TV isn't enough, we're often gifted with the screening of American Idol and Looser series) almost worked, because they were inspiring to fat people (I know many fans). The australian version just has annoying loosers trying to get easy money with minimal weight loss to launch their singing careers. Idol doesn't work either, because after the first series, all australian talent was gone. And I really don't know how the hell they've managed to get a BB8.
BB1 was s****. BB2 was, too. As was 3-7. Since 4, the press has strongly opposed it. 7 featured contestants being removed for gangraping one of the other contestants. But don't worry, they were still made into public idols
I don't even know anyone who watches chanel 7's ongoing set of [insert something here] Celebrity! [something]'s, but my sister accidently tuned in and spent half the "two-hour special extravaganza" trying to identify which one was the celebrity. IIRC, she decided upon an actress off Mclauds Daughters, an ongoing aussie drama with more long-lost sisters than Charmed, which also illustrates the point that perhaps its not just reality TV, perhaps TV is just dead in general.
There is too much "reality," which is boguns trying to launch their singing careers. But then, on most of the chanels the news is the host of some **** gameshow (Australias brainiest [insert occupation here]) telling us (in order) An Australian helicopter crashed, something about Australia defending itself from terrorist assylum seekers, a true-blue Aussie sportsman not being prosocuted for assault because he's a sportsman, and a cute panda.
For those who like more than the news, theres the current affairs shows. Out of control youths! (footage of a todler throwing something), Dodgy businesses! (footage of someone browsing a blurred webpage), and to finish the 60mins, either Kid with cancer! or rival Current affairs show creating stories out of nothing!
Then theres the dramas, like the aforementioned Mcloauds, all aussie dramas feature acting more reminicant of tables, wooden, with four legs.
So flick over to some crime shows! CSI, CSI:Miami or CSI:New York, not that the stories aren't the same, some crime, solved by DNA. Or an Agatha Christie, where the guy who did it is the most famous of the British Lovies appearing in the episode, and you know this because ones been shown more times than Christie wrote books.
Medical shows! The lastest blockbuster fly-on-wall-in-surgery show is Saving Babies. You get to watch babies get cut up, but they always survive, and they could only afford the rights to play one song, else they'd have brought a scriptwriter.
Soaps are soaps, 'nuff said.
Sport is usually Cricket (people standing in a field for 5 days before murdering their coach for getting them such a s**** gig, or Aussie football, which is a debased form of rugby, with less skill needed, and more injuries. Neither appeal to me, but I'll acknowledge that some football is shown on the Special Broadcasting Service, Australia's answer to multicultralism - goverment regulated to strictly only show news in other languages, football, and softcore pornography.
Documentries are either at some obscure time on a distant chanel, and only surfacing once a month to check WWII still happened, or some wildlife series, with an introduction by an Aussie, so they can put it towards their quota of aussie shows shown.
TV is sick, Reality TV is just a symptom.
Only shows I watch are House (brilliant), Law & Order (unlike CSI, vanilla, SVU and CI ARE different, my personal favor going to SVU), and The Late Show (when I get back from TAFE at 11:30 I flick it on while eating my dinner, I don't stay up for it).

Remember, Jeeves, that only one country can make something good out of desecrating rugby. ;) *hums 'Star-Spangled Banner'*

All in all, reality TV, is, well, not reality. If it were, then there would be no fixed cameras, no makeup, no hosts, and no audiences watching in the studio. About the only reality TV series that is worth watching is 'Dancing with the Stars', though I just call that a celebrity gameshow. Damn, John Ratzenburger (sp?) can waltz, man!

As the demon sleeps, man turns on man.

From the depths of despair awaken the Razgriz.
Its raven wings ablaze in majestic light.
Amidst the eternal waves of time
From a ripple of change shall the storm rise
Out of the abyss peer the eyes of a demon
Behold the Razgriz, its wings of black sheath

In Final Reckoning, the beast is slain.

the only things that are good about TV: cartoons, the news with the weather, the occasional classic comedy.

1. I can rent or download cartoons
2. The news I can find out on the net, plus I'm a good freind of the local weather person so I often don't need to find it out from there anyway
3. Classic comedies are almost all avaliable on DVD these days (black adder ftw  )

A good solution for the rest is this: We haven't had TV channels since I was 10, the only use the TV gets is movies and games

That would be blue giant suns. ;) And don't argue - I still pwn you at wargames  Speaking of which...

he's got a point. only we can pull retarded ideas out of our asses and some how have millions of people watch it ^_^

Actually you pulled the retarded idea out American "football" of our ass. And trust me, Rugby is about four hundred times better to watch, and I don't even understand half the friggin' rules!

3. Classic comedies are almost all avaliable on DVD these days (black adder ftw :p )

I could not help myself but to post that Blackadder is, for the most part, horrid. Had a couple of good moments but hardly even excrement on the boot of Fawlty Towers.

As for reality TV, while as duke said it did help give rise to some awesome programme ideas which are a damn sight better'n what we used to have (the whole 'life in X situation' thing with all the conspiracies and not knowing who to trust and shit - awesome for the most part), reality TV itself is not 'reality'. It is a highly concentrated field of wankers and/or z-list no-mark moronic celebrities. These make up only a tiny percentage of the normal population. What worries me is that they make so much money from phone-voting people out of the house! And what's worse, these people are winning RIDICULOUS AMOUNTS OF MONEY BY BEING THE BIGGEST MORON IN THE HOUSE! All of them are, invariably, fundamentally unlikeable, and therefore these sad, sad people who watch them are forced to vote for the 'least-bad' option.

The idea's old. I don't understand why it still runs.

And as for I'm a Celebrity...Ant and Dec shoulda stuck to SMTV Live. As soon as they left the show got shitcanned. And it was the best kid's show on the telly!

Controversial, but nonetheless funny and I rather agree.
