ok ill work on a way to try it out. another problem is my sauron. I have made the command set and put the behaviors in. but when i play it is greyed out. could it be because sauron does not have an experience levels.ini spot? ill look around to see if i can get an experience levels ini to see if that works but i would still like to ask here first

In general, try first before you ask :p
And if the behaviour you gave him is unlocked by an upgrade, then you need to grant him that upgrade, normally in experiencelevels.ini :)

i know i need to do the experiencelevels ini but the problem is sauron does not have an experience level. he is just 0 or nothing :p .thats why i was saying do i need to make a whole new experience level for him like all 1-10? because i think that would be a sort of hassle for me to do seeing as ill need all the upgrades and ill probably need to make new stuff like armor upgrade level 2 or something like that. :)

Just copy the experience levels 1-10 of another evil hero, change the name from *evilhero*Level to SauronLevel1-10 and change the TargetNames to your Sauron-object :sleep:

ok when i get to my modding later today ill copy stuff. but just to ask what would the "target names" be? and also will it actually show in game or will it still be blank or 0?

If you do it correctly, he'll start out at level 1 and will be able to gain experience and rank up to level 10. The TargetNames should be followed by the object name of your Sauron (probably something like MordorSauron).

ok working on that now and will finish in no time. another question that i think i asked to many people and maybe even in this topic. map.ini's they never seem to work for my maps. It appears that the map is being read straight from worldbuilder and not from the folder with the map.ini and map.str. does anyone know how to get this fixed? its really annoying me. :) Thanks. :p

But the map itself works then?
Maybe you should post up the code of your map.ini then, because it has a somewhat special syntax and you might have made some mistakes there. And I always thought strings would also go into map.ini, not a special map.str... Then again, I've never made a map for BFME, so I might be wrong.

they do go into a special "map.str" file. and also the map.ini is the same as Ringwars. i'm making my own version for personal use. i didnt change anything in the files just set them up like they are in the Ringwars folder.so ive also been looking around the files and seeing that whenever i try to make a map.ini or map.str they dont seem to work. if anyone else has any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated. :) Thanks :)

So do you have everything in the right places? Can you play your map but not get the map.ini to work? Are you starting the map from the beginning and not loading a previous save file from it?

yah. it will play the map but will not use the map.ini. and yes i open the map from the folder. and do not overwrite the new one with old ones. so what else might someone suggest? this is really starting to make me mad haveing a "ringwars" with no ini. i mean sauron with no powers? no super explosion from aragorn dieing? no One ring powers? everthing is messed up. no special tech tree so i cant get heal and scavenger? everything wouldnt make any sense. you know?

Has your game been modded yet? If so, it may be interfering in some way. Try playing it without the mod and see if it works. We can then go from there.

2 things one that doesnt work. even without any modding on my game the map.ini still does not work. and two does anyone know what behaviors i would give to Sauron to give him the "deploy mine" attack. he can use it but i cant place it anywhere. wut would i put in his ini? i have it in commandset and it will work but it just doesnt give the cursor that shows where to deploy it. any help would help. thanks.

Another question how might i be able to edit the campaign units available? i would like to be able to buy any hero unit from the citadel in campaign but in some levels you cant do anything? any help would be appreciated

Sorry admins. for triple posting but apparently noone wants to respond to these. Last question for a while. I am making a Sauron, as some may know, i need two more powers for him. i would like to know what people think sauron should have. so far ive gone as far as a team of mines spawning, balrog fire breath,word of power, and the one ring. So wut do you guys think i should put in for the last two spots? I would also like to ask How do you change the CONTROLBAR: things? i dont want some of the moves to say "required rank 10" and stuff like that. where can i find the spots where it says all the info?

Mind sending your map.ini file to me? I don't see why it wouldn't work.

As for the CONTROLBAR thing, open notepad and save the document as "map.str" without the quotes. Put this file in your map folder. In the map.str file, create your text by following this method:

CONTROLBAR:NAME (put whatever you want here)
" Text."  (must be in quotes)
END

After that, go to the commandbutton you wish to change, copy and paste in your map.ini file, and change the text label and descript label accordingly.

the control bar for the actual mod (not map.str) sorry that i didnt explain a little better. i just gave up on the mapini and str cause they really became useless for the map. its going to be a lot harder now. do you know how to do the actual mod CONTROLBAR?
