A Nation who Reigns in Crazies

Here is Turkey, a nation who, no matter what, reigns in it's shariah crazies. Even by military force if necessary. The military has removed 4 governments in 50 years to insure that.
Seems the people have spoken and Gul and decided to not seek the highest position in the nation.
This is good news, and a good example of the populous stepping up and insuring it's secular freedom.
There will not be shariah law in Turkey today, Sorry Islamo facisists, you lost this round. See you next season...

The EU is pressuring the military to not intervene and the military intervene in the government.. I'm not an expert, I can only say what I've heard and even then it's hard to fully form an opinion as I, before this convo, didn't know anything about the Turkish system. They want to keep state and religion seperated, which is in my (and their) opinion, a good thing.

REINS.
REIGNS is a rule.
REINS are used for horses by riders, and are hence the source of the metaphor.
Fix that and then we'll talk.

So you're suggesting the US currently lives in a theocracy? If only the people of the United States could do the same as those in Turkey....
So you suggest the military should take a position in US politics? That's what keeps the peace, the US miitary has no say.
Or maybe, you might understand the US is a Federalist system. The most successful one at that. A Nation lead by many small states with independant say, unless it steps past a nationally recognized line.
There is no other nation on the planet earth, NEAR our population, that can boast the existance of a Federalist system. To actually allow local areas to make up thier own rules.
While still abiding by a judicial system that guarentees a just trial and sentence.
There are not that many nations that can say thier police or judges cannot be bought off. I've been around to 15 countries and 5 continants. Other nations police and judges can be bought off alot easier than in the States.
We are not corrupt, though you think we are, you best look at your own nation as an example.

And I'm not saying the US is a theocracy. What I was referring to was the title "A Nation who reigns in its crazies", and that the United States has been run by crazies for quite some time now. These crazies being defense contractors, oil companies, and the politicians that refuse to stand up to them, and who are willing to invade and ravage sovereign countries for their own economic gains.
Canada may be corrupt, but at least we are sane (well maybe not with Harper, but hes not gonna last long)

A paper written by university proffessors. This isn't really up to date. The cost of the war far exceeds any money that MIGHT have been made by US contractors.
Stating we went into Iraq for the money is like when I go to the store and they tell me I saved $20 on my $500 purchase.

This is the place where all the junkies go, where time gets fast but everything gets slow.
I'll get to the moon if I have to crawl.
The problem with any government is that it eventually attracts politicians.

Cossack, seriously, there will never be an non-corrupt system. We've done a damn good job keeping the truly power-hungry out of office.
You can hope, but sometimes you just gotta be realistic, ya know? Utopian societies were an illusion 4000 years ago, it's far gone past pipe-dream status these days, with the information age spreading truth and lies at an unstoppable rate. Yeah, I'd like a society without corruption, but as long as people want power, you have corruption. That's human nature, like it or not. Even Karl Marx disagreed with utopian socialists. Consider that, seeing as how you seem to view his theories much more highly than a federalist system that works.
