Hi, to all here. I'm new to here. Can I know how to get started on making a site? I already have a host, password and username but I do not know how to do.

Is it am I going to make a webpage using frontpage first then upload it up? Then how to upload it if my first question is correct?

Firstly, welcome here :).

Secondly, to answer your questions, you need a program like Filezilla. Fill in the details I sent you and you'll see a folder where you can drop your files in. You can make your website with Frontpage if you find that the most easy way. I personally prefer Notepad for manual coding but Frontpage can do as well. If you want to code it manually you can find some tutorials using Google by searching for 'HTML tutorial' or something of the likes.

See this topic for more details on how to upload your files.

I'm at university at the moment so I can't write a very long message but if you have more questions or if this answer was not sufficient, do not hesitate to post (there are also others around who are able to help).

Oh. Ok. Blaat85. Glad that you are the one who first read my request. I have made my site, then what links should i put in my site?

The links I've put in my site are :
Download, Forum, Staffs, Map Descriptions and Movie Downloads.
Still need to add links which I've missed?

K. Then after I've download the Filezilla, then what should I do next?

Install Filezilla and run the program. At the top you will see several fields where you can fill in the details I sent you. You can leave the port field empty.

What sort of links depends on what you want exactly with your mod/maps. Perhaps a part where you can post news about it? Maybe a link to a page with screenshots unless you include those on the map description page (which would make sense as well). You can also add something later on. With movie downloads I assume you will show so called 'trailers' and ingame footage of your maps?

For more ideas perhaps browse the Network Bar you see at the top of these forums and check out some other sites in our network. At this moment I can't think of much else so it seems fine to me, if there is more you can also always add it later on.

an important note, the first page you will generate using FrontPage must be called index.html.

You can of course use FrontPage to create your pages, and I even think that there's an option to directly publish your pages by filling in several fields for FTP, but I don't have FrontPage handy so I'm afraid I cannot be of much guidance on that area.

You'll need an FTP client like FileZilla, CoreFTP, SmartFTP etc to upload the files from your computer to the server (unless you're doing the site with a program that has that included). Use the user and password data given to you when you received the hosting, then upload the files.

When you login in your FPT client (I strongly recomend Filezilla) you should see a folder with a name I forgot. This is also what you'll see if you go to the url. You can upload in filezilla by navigating the left pane to the file you wish to upload, and the right to the location you wish to upload to, and either double-clicking or drag-dropping across.
If you upload pages or files here, they'll be listed when you go to the url, but if you upload an index.htm (or html, php, etc.) it will be shown instead of the directory listing.
You can also create folders, and the index in each will also be shown if you go to http://address/folder
Think thats ftp 101...

Just to butt in, you can actually just drag and drop the files using Windows Explorer here, like it were any other system directory. Just plonk the address in the address bar and go to file -> login as. That's how I have my team doing it at present.
