Well,

Here is a very rough example of the new/returning feature.

seperate.jpg
combined.jpg

I have other examples, but I'll hold those off for another time. (I'm sure another mod has already done this, but not many. I'm always striving for ways to combine BFME1 and BFME2 to bring the best from each game.)

I've been debating if I wanted to announce this or not. I probably should have waited until everything was near completion and v1.05 was released. I've done preliminary testing with e few hordes, testing healing respawns, upgrades and other items and it looks like everything is still intact.

Basically, what would this mod be without this imortant feature of BME1. It has to be one of the items I miss most and I have wanted to add back in as much as the castles.

So let me know if you don't want it in. I'm going to count my vote as about a huge number, but if everyone else says no, I won't attempt it. (Talk about a lot of coding work to get all of the hordes able to combine correctly and all that.)

The main reason why I wanted to bring this up is for anyone offering suggestions about hordes/horde-size and balance items keep in mind this is where I'm heading. Smaller hordes that can combine with others or themselves. The combined hordes lose special abilities but gain in other areas.

The amount of code and hordes and everything will increase exponentially, thus the reason why I need a large/strong beta test team for the subsequent releases. So many horde formations/objects etc. So sign up in the other topic if you want to join.

So let me know what you think,
Robert J.

Yes too!
But only do what you think is not only worth the effort (and/or admiration of you fans and peers) but what also is gratifying by just doing it. Comboing hordes must be fun. Haven't done it before, only in my mind...

For me it will be enjoyable. I like doing the horde placement, horde coding, etc. ini coding just about as much as I enjoy the campaign maps. I'm not sure if the AI will work for combo hordes, so I'll have to think about that.

The main point of this mod really is what I want in BFMEII. When the game came out, I enjoyed it, but over and over I found myself saying I really miss this or I really miss that. I loved new features, WotR, factions, units, but I missed a lot in BFME1. So this is my chance to make the game how I want. It's a lot of work/effort but I'm enjoying the end product, and the more people that enjoy it the better. And if there are other things that people want in the game that don't conflict my interests I'm completely open to other ideas.

For this poll, I just thought it would be a fun way to introduce the topic. As I said, unless I get about 100 for no and 0 yes, this will be included in a future release.

Include it, but perhaps make it a little more effective than BFME1. I found that many times when I combined a horde, I later regretted it. Partly it was because they moved so much slower when combined, but it was also the way they attacked. For example, if you combine a melee unit with an archer unit and you order the horde to attack a building, the melee units won't leave the horde to atack the building. Instead, only the archers will attack the building from far away. Also, when you are designing hordes to combine, choose the ones that make sense. For some odd reason, EA allowed you to combine units such as peasants and rohirrom in BFME1. Why would anyone want to do that

Yes but by combining the two the cavalry lose all their speed.

I say include, I've had this in my mod for a while and it's very fun

Yeah, it should be included.
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

Should be included, but with an option to separate, due to the complains above.

Yes, they should be able to seperate, but I'll have to code it around upgrades. You should not be able to combine, upgrade to save money, and then seperate so I'll try to get it so that you can only seperate if you have not upgraded.

Horde sizes that I've had in mind for this:
elves, dwarves - 5 - combined 10
gondor, rohan, arnor - 7/8 - combined 4/16 (I have not decided which)
isengard, evilmen - 10 - combined 20
goblins, mordor - 15 - combined 30

This is only for the basic infantry. Other units (Half-Trolls, Black-orcs, mini-hero hordes, etc. will have smaller hordes.)

This will require a full restructuring of all of the hordes/balance as well as heroes/power, commandpoints, build costs, time etc. so I'll be working this on the side and will introduce it once a number of campaign maps are finished in a later version.

A good solution would be setting the cost of the mixed battalion to the double. Like, armor upgrade costs 300 on one battalion, if the company is united with another, it costs 600. Easy to think, not easy to do, I guess

definite include

but make it realistic, as others have said. No cav-infantry, and maybe stealth units shouldnt combine with others.

Do what he said. I like the Idea of combining them, but we should get a option to seperate them later.

I got frustrated because I used this tactic to get closer to the enemies base, but I had no soldiers to attack.
