terry pratchett had a nice little footnote about that which you are talking hostile.

can't remember it word perfect, but i'll try my best.

"there was once a small and very unimaginable tribe on this continent. they had no fancy stories about how things were, and called things like clouds "water evaporated from the sea" and lightning "collision of pressures and clouds in the sky which causes energy fluctuations". the reason they were so small was because their neighboring tribes were alot more imaginative and said that the lightning was a sign from their gods to take the other tribes land, and rain was a sign that they should kill the unimaginative tribes men and kidnap their women.
when they saw a streak of fire that crossed the sky(actually a home-made spaceship flown by the characters of the novel) and the unimaginative tribe said "it must have been something completely natural, but we have no clue what it was", while the imaginative tribe said "our god has told us to conquer more land for our people", and they completely wiped out the unimaginative tribe and took over their land. a few decades later a meteorite randomly hit the area and killed all the remaining imaginative tribes, which shows that the universe doesn't really care about anything, but it has a tendency do make things look ironic"

evolution has worked nicely hostile, it has brought forth those who have had the best chances of survival, and those would be the ones who aggressively hunted down opponents and took their land in the name of the gods.

"I give you private information on corporations for free and I'm a villain. Mark Zuckerberg gives your private information to corporations for money and he's 'Man of the Year.'" - Assange

Of course if you were to discuss this among atheists you'd find approval and validation, but to or for what end, I don't know.

Yet oddly, every sentient culture in the world believes in a higher power? I'm not aware of any athiest tribes or civilizations.

Mass hysteria? Evolutionary flaw?

A simple desire to explain. This argument you give has been taken care of so many times already.

No fuel left for the pilgrims
