Okay, I downloaded the final music release and it arrived in .mix format. I have unmixed it to a degree, and I now have the music archived on my PC. But the problem is that it is in an "unrecognized" file mode. This may sound kinda noob, but I was wondering how I could convert it into .mp3 format so Windows Media Player will easily run it when I click it. I can have WMP play it, but it asks what program to open a song in before WMP plays it. An MP3 is better than the unrecognized mode since it will run more effieciently, and it reduces file size.

These songs all have coded titles and I'd like to get em properly renamed to their release title. Would anyone happen to know how to rename em?

Also, I downloaded the compressed .zip "unmix" tool to my thumbdrive. Since it was unzipped and saved to my hard drive, I no longer need the .zip on my thumbdrive. Yet I still have weird folders(they got weird characters on their titles) from the .zip remaining on there, and they will not delete. I get an error message, saying "cannot read from the source file or disk." Any ideas there?

Thanx in advance.

First of all, sounds like you used wrong tools to extract it or something :p

use xcc mixer to open the mix and extract the wavs which are IMA ADPCM compressed stereo so kinda close to mp3 sizes while lower quality and no RA2:YR does not have a playback support for MP3 format.

anyways WMP usually plays ima adpcm all fine and then theres winamp you can also use on the wavs.

If you must convert to mp3, use iTunes or Nero Wave Editor. I use iTunes as it allows batch conversion...NWE is good for those file formats iTunes doesn't know tho.

Or use NCH Switch which is a very useful tool imo, can batch convert to almost all formats and is freeware.

Nevermind, I'm all good now. I corrected my third problem simply by formatting my flash drive; that erased everything on it and I was able to resave all my schoolwork back on thanks to back up files.

As for the music, when I "sampled" it, it really wasn't to my liking. No offense, but Mandatory Metallica will do for me. So don't worry about a thing. I appreciate the help y'all offered, thank you.

You may now do as you wish with this topic now(I'm done with it), most likely make it into a Q&A center for the mod's music for those who experience technical difficulties.

I don't exactly think anything with vocals in it would suit a mod, or a game.

I didn't expect the mod to have Metallica stuff. I just like that band a lot, that's all. As for a game with vocals, it has been done several times before. The GTA series for example has music with vocals. There are radio stations in GTA3 and further releases that feature all sorts of stations, from metal to techno to chit-chat.

I can see where you're coming from with techno as a preferred listening style for gaming, but a metal band also works wonders in a game. I listen to Metallica if I play CNC skirmish, and it goes well. Unlike your idea, the vocals are good in my gameplay.

It all comes down to different strokes for different folks.

I beleive that if you were to go to this site (this) and listen to the song Euphorium, you would beleive that is perfect for RS. Universe City is another one I would recommend for it, and Speed of Sound is pretty good too. On Fire and Sytrus Sky are also good. Look through all of his music, though not all are good, about a quarter of them are extremely good, and another quarter is good.
