Playing games? Ah, you'll never be a good modder if you get involved in actually playing them!

Whats so wrong about them ? They are different from axethrowers and they may not be so Tolkien like but dwarves are lacking elite archer unit and crossbows can be just that

Crossbow = point and click = not elite
Bow = years of training to be able to use it = elite

M'kay?

Ignoring the obvious raping of Tolkien's works, compare how easy it'd be to make each. Crossbows have 1 set of anims, so if they don't work well you're screwed. Bows have many sets, so USE THEM!!1!!1!!!one!!!

Hmm well I have always been interested to make Dwarf Hunter (Cause I had one in LOTRO beta :thumbsupsmiley:) so I could make that into elite unit instead of crossbow.
And also if I have understood correctly from the books that I have read, crossbows are quite advanced technology and I very much doubt that they had those in Second Age
But one thing that I want to point out, you dont have to strain crossbows which makes them easier to use than bows and the power that it shoots doesnt depend on the user as in bows if the user is weak, the bow cant be strained properly but that was just some off-topic wierd text from me. Ignore it :thumbsupsmiley:

Yea I already have Dwarf archers at the techtree and now Im going to replace crossbowss with Dwarf Hunters. I was thinking that they could toggle between bow and axe/sword/spear.

Yea something like. And I was thinking that maybe spear would be something different than sword or axe to toggle with bow.

would be awesome with spears, surely

EDIT: I think there should be some elite dwarven unit. they would be available from lvl 3 barracks or something, 6 units per horde and cost say 1000. my idea is that they would be extremely heavily equipped (thick mithril armour and double-handed axe) and have the same speed as siege weapons. they would be quite resistant to arrows, and have a lot of crush revenge. they could be some sort of lifeguards for durin :thumbsupsmiley:

Yay good to see my arguments were not for naught

I like the idea of a spear toggle for the bowmen. Reason being that spears and bows are both generally used as hunting weapons, whereas swords/axes aren't. I take it that's your reasoning?
