Why is there no clear thread about the GLA and what they are like so far? I'm just interested, you know...
My main question is: How are they going to be powerful enough to contend with the new sides? GLA (even in contra bar Assault) never had heavy units, or any highly destructive powers. Are the units going to be made silly-cheap? Will they have so many cool abilities they will be far stronger than their guns and armour suggest? If it's all confidential, I understand, but I still want to have a taste of what to expect.

U should read topics >.<
But the toxin gen and the assult get are moving to be more third world army so they are funded and as such would have a nice supply of weapons and goodies.

Stealth and demo are aiming to be more terrest factions, they will use lower tech stuff from the black market some of witch being old soverit fighters and tanks and such.

But do not worry pend has already been over ideas with us testers and the GLA will be very much capable of dealing with the US and China sides, aslong as you play using the tactics ment for said side.
ie: stealth is not a head on attack general so dno't play him if thats wat your gonna do.

Anyways just wait i sure screenies will be posted by me and testers once gla sides are taking on more of a better shape.

Theres not a "GLA description topic" because its mostly been discused in the suggestions topic. There have on occasion been a few GLA threads, but they were usualy short lived or very specific to a certain point then died.

As for what they will be like, Phoenix mentioned some of it, but heres the basic lay out of each.

ALL GLA are getting new defenses to make them more resiliant. Thier defenses will now be on-par with any other faction.

Assault and Chem are geting beefed up alot with stronger units to compete in the early and late game. The Assault general's tanks won't be as strong as a Warmaster, or Paladin, but they will be very capable and able to engage such units without needing 3 to 1 numbers.

Chem General will have much more potent acids and toxins, though he will be forced to specialize into one of them above the others.

Demo General already has a very formiable suicide force, his weakness is that he can't hold a line because his army depletes itself even when its winning :p So he will be given a small variety of conventional units to help him hold the line. Some artillery, a couple tanks, etc.

Stealth General is getting a terrifying array of powers. Much worse than the sabature ambush, he's actualy getting a sabotage-targetable-power. So you just point and click, and its sabotaged. At higher levels it will have a radius even. There are several other powers as well... His units will be few and frail, but he will have good defenses.

Between now and the next polished release there should be very little new art work done. Instead the focus is on designing, testing, and fixing. the mod has always been so close to finished that its nearly criminal. I'd love to see this through to the end with a real community effort.

Thanks for replying Pendaelose. I kind of thought you wouldn't, but I guess you really are awesome. Any idea on an ETA for seeing GLA?

:p I try to be :p

I can't give a release date... theres no such thing. I've got a wife and 2 kids, and I could be changing jobs if a certain interview goes well... so I can't say for sure. BUT I can say, I'd LIKE to have it out in the early Fall. Full GLA, AI, and final tweeks to the other factions. But we'll have to see if that can happen. Depeneding on cercumstance I might release another partial version once I have just the core GLA factions done, and keep the AI and final balancing for another release.

btw, now that you cured the AI what do you think? Have you tried a 1vs1 on a large open map, such as Fortress avalanch?

Actually I found out that normal AI is as it was - fucked, to put it bluntly. Hard and Insane are clearly working appropriately, but I am nowhere near good enough to beat Hard.
Also I am yet to test online again with Olli, but I fear nothing has changed and it will mismatch. If it is still broken... well, there is a slim hope. I do own CCG + ZH, but I leant ZH to a friend. I installed The First Decade from a CD image, but just CCG and ZH from it, so not really illegally. If it is something to do with TFD then I have the hope of installing the original versions of the games.
I know something is altered, something in the registry, whether related to a mod or TFD. As I said I cannot play ZH after a clean install (and I MEAN CLEAN before anybody mentions files again), and the crash message basically says it couldn't find the assault general's stuff - which is correct, but how does it even know what the assault general is? Why is it trying to load it? On placing Remix files in, the game will run fine.
I demand an explanation.

No... I don't think I've played any mods other than Contra or Remix.

Edit: I searched the registry for "toaster" just in case, nothing.

ok, it may not be in your ZH folder, but the !Contra.Big or _Remix.Big is SOMEWHERE the system can see it while loading ZH. Make sure its not sitting directly on your C:\, not in a previous install folder, not in your "My Docutments", and not in "c:\data\" if such a folder exsists.

I recomend doing C: searches for both Contra and Remix. If you see them pop-up anywhere they don't obviously belong I'd delete them.

Well that makes more sense than a registry entry (especially since I nuked the registry of anything mod related). I'll try it out now.

That is too much effort.

Also I have tried deleting things... something is different now. It still says Serious Error, still same crash log, but now it quickly tells me that instead of freezing my PC for 30 seconds. So something must have changed...

I think Gred is screwing with you on the reformat thing... 2 points of note...

1. I'm 100% sure that its trying to parse either the Remix or Contra .big file OR you've decompressed the .big file and you have a copy of the AsaultGeneral.ini sitting around someplace wrong... this is much less likely, unless you were desecting the mods...

2. The mods create ZERO regestry entries. they don't touch it AT ALL... so the problem is definatly a file where it should not be.

well i did tell him that he must have over looked a file and that the mods never touch the registry, but he bitched at me saying how he could "not" have missed a file and so forth.
And i simply replyed user error, its quiet easy to over look a file or so i sure plenty of us have done it regauding some program or so in there time of being a pc user, so it does happen stubbs

I GOT IT TO WORK!

Well I haven't tested Normal AI yet, but I FUCKING got vanilla ZH to fucking boot up *gets dick out*.

The solution was so simple. Install the game to a different directory.
As for "user error"... no - computer error, windows error, whatever error, but not mine. This is so awesome...
Thanks for the help, your comments did lead to my brainwave.

Every silver lining has its cloud.
Easy AI is still broken. On the upside, I noticed one of the models had changed (flamethrower infantry) from a brown suit to a coloured one.
That is Contra right, that has the brown flame infantry. This has all been Contra's fault.
I am going to test netplay now.
