I think that this pic explains most of it :

Posted Image

And for all the people who might think slowly, the whole horde system has been taken away :p
Reasons and info about this

BALANCE
The current balance could be kept if we used simple mathematical rules
At the moment a Gondor soldier battalion costs §200 and gives you 15 units.
Since they should be single units their new price should be (200/15=) §13 and their buildtime should be their current buildtime divided with 15.
Orcs, on the other hand, would cost (100/20=) §5, be recruited in some seconds.

GAMEPLAY
It would do loads for the pathfinding. At the moment, battalions often have problems with doing what you want them to, especially in closely built bases. No more of that...
Instead of grabbing a battalion of troops, you would use as many as you liked for your attacks. You could send out your troops for scouting, and still lose almost nothing if they die.
It would lead to a new spam policy...at the moment you're afraid of losing a whole battalion so you always run away to heal it somewhere once it's almost dead. With this system, however, it doesn't matter how much you try to save your troops - dead units are dead and that's it.
Double-click would be the most essential command, as that would be the only way to upgrade a certain unit type all at the same time. But offcourse you can still heal troops but if you lose unit, it aint coming back by some spell ^_^

COOLNESS
Imagine a swarm of orcs assaulting you from all sides - no fixed formations, just this great mass of orcs. Your Numenoreans stand in a formation at first (you would still be able to mark all units and press both mouse buttons and form ranks), but once the orcs come upon them, they would break into fighting. Much more realistic! And think about orc troops heading to the battle field from the side where there is trees and stuff, and then suddenly elves reveal themselves and they aint in hordes but they are just all around you. It would be fun for the orcs but for the player with elves, wouldnt that be fun ? ^_^
You would be able to form any formations you liked with this system, placing ONE row of pikemen in front of your ONE row of archers, making a much longer battle front. Totally amazing.

BANNER CARRIERS
They would be recruitable as single units too, for say §100. Instead of "healing" battalions as they do now, they can be upgraded
-Defence bonus, banner carrier gives defence bonus
-Attack bonus, banner carrier gives damage bonus
-Speed bonus, banner carrier gives speed
-No fear, banner carrier takes the fear away
All the upgrades cost about 100-300 resources and the radius is quite small

OTHER THINGS
And as far as the controlling of these troops is concerned, I find them just as easy to handle as hordes or battalions, if not easier :p Only lil problem comes when attacking units because if you have archers they just shoot the units and infantry and cavalry might stop when going attacking but I dont find this that hard to take ;)

Now, throw the tomatoes, yell, do what ever you like you but I have gotten only positive comments about this from everybody that knows about this :)

Credit goes to Caluadan for bringing this up and writing most of the text that is in this post :)

Interesting.... will certainly add a lot more uniqueness to the mod.

It would be nice to see some screenshots showing how this works on a large scale:
"Imagine a swarm of orcs assaulting you from all sides - no fixed formations, just this great mass of orcs. Your Numenoreans stand in a formation at first (you would still be able to mark all units and press both mouse buttons and form ranks), but once the orcs come upon them, they would break into fighting."

I try to do some if I catch up with Cal or Yoda because atm the AI doesnt work because of the changes made so I need to either fix it myself or find AI coder soon that I can get the beta out :)

if I had replaced "oh" with "oh that was something I hadn't expected" I would have used more words (=less spammy?) but I would've said the same thing. :)

But don't worry I'm no rebel ;)

totally good idea, I just love single (loads of 'em) units in BFME! :) So I fully support this change! :sad2: Still, I also like hordes, so I don't remove them for my mods ;)

Good Idea!!
Just two questions: Will it have upgrades of armor and weapons? If it will the price will be the same or you will divide the price per number of troops like in the price of the unit?
Thank you Ithron for the avatar

1, Yes all troops can upgrade them selves but you have to do it one by one  Im thinking about some possibilites for this but atm thats the only option
2,The price will be same for all the units because like said in first post, if the cost of horde is 200 and there is 15 units in it we can do it like this
200/15 and we get the cost of one unit :)

this makes for interesting gameplay. for instance, you can uprade all units in the front line with heavy armor, while your archer units only get fires arrows, or other combinations. Of course, you can upgrade everyone with everything too, but thats expensive ;)

I like that, because in bfme2 the hordes cannot fit through narrow passes, even though it appears they can fit. The pathfinding is mucked up.

Im very glad that this thing has only gotten positive replies ;) It seems that this is the thing that makes LA different from other mods.

Edit: Nice that T3A gets new members from IP  Propably because SEE, LA and WOTE are/were all looking for mapper there
