Developer Petroglyph says it is taking steps to make sure console users aren't at a disadvantage when they take on PC players. RTS games have typically suffered at the hands of console controllers. Petroglyph has said in the past it likes some of the things Command & Conquer 3 and Battle for Middle-earth II did on the 360, and some of the console "fixes" it could do without. Universe at War's console control scheme is being built from the ground up to ensure "ease of command for console players."
The multiplayer modes of Universe at War are inspired by popular massively-multiplayer online games. A persistent Conquer the World mode lets players battle for ultimate supremacy over a virtual representation of Earth.
