Hmmm... maybe they could be a lot more effective against units in Heavy Armor? That would be an interesting late-game development... In the early game, the Axe Guardians would be your staple, since slashing is a lot better against lightly armored opponents, but later on you start investing more in Hammer Guardians, since they'd be more effective against FU troops. :)

Sounds good there considering some AI factions like to get heavy armor as soon as possible. :)

Could some sort of heavy defensive unit be implemented into the Dwarves?

They're shield bearers and have no weaopns due to the size of the shields, but you can assign battalions to them, their attack is fairly low, but they can knock back enemies with their shields, and their defensive potential...you can't put a price on it.

I agree, that would make the Dwaven faction more unique.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the hammer Guardians regarding knockback if that were to be implemented? Also, I always thought that the Dwarves units focused on defense as a whole.

Or perhaps you could just have 1 guardian unit, that can upgrade to shields (for better defense but weaker attacks) or hammers (for siege/aoe with less armor)?

In which case we have the same multiple guardian issue that we have now

Unless we go with my idea for upgrading dwarven units =D

Isengard was ea's best faction. They don't need any changes  It fits dwarves just as well.

Well if the Sheildbearers do knockback attacks but no damage that would still leave room for the hamemr guardians to inflict knockback and damage. Dwarves may be defensive as a faction but I don't think that has truly been reflected yet. And having the shields as an upgrade would jut take more time and resources. I like the guardians as they are now with two variations, and these shieldbearers are a separate kind of unit unrelated to the Guardians.

It is an interesting feature, but I wonder if them not doing any damage would have them be useless?

Not really because they'd practically be invulnerable to arrows, spear's and swords would just bounce off, and horsemen would be unable to trample them, they're the ultimate in defence, especially when you assign a unit to them, guardians, axe throwers, phalanxes. And they can continue to knockback enemies, forcing the attacker to realize he can't beat them. Only high veteran units fully upgraded, lead by heroes could stand a chance. It's OP armour and defence but it balances because they don't do any damage, you have to rely on the attached battalions for that.

make it really easy to damage them from the flank in order to make it possible to kill them without having to completely retreat.
i like the idea a lot though.

And then, make them possible to combine with themselves and have a formation that allows them to shield from the flank, making them near-invincible once more :p

What is the situation with the Dwarven axe-throwers? What is being done?
My suggestion is that you remove them and replace them with dwarven archers/crossbowmen

I thought it might be interesting to mention that TA:TW includes not only Dwarven Crossbows, but also dwarves with swords and shields. After all, they made lots of those, but nobody ever seems to believe that they used them. :thumbsupsmiley:

regarding the axethrowers im going to reiterate someone else's idea that i have pretty much adopted as my own: :thumbsupsmiley:
nix the axethrowers in place of normal archers and give guardians an axe-throw ability similar to gimli.

with all of the ideas that have been thrown around for the dwarves lately, im seeing them as possibly having the most unique infantry in the game, which could make strategizing with them very very interesting. so hopefully we can push some of these ideas through for when the dwarves get their overhaul.
