this game needs a lot of RAM, too. Probably the biggest problems come when you get TRULY massive armies that the engine can't handle, and you get problems with that. I lag a lot, but not nearly as much as i did on my old computer. heh, good times, goooood times....wtf! that wasn't good!! I hated that crappy thing!!

wow....scitzophrenia kicking in...

Hehe yes, that's why I said...

Why don't they just crank as much memory as possible into those cards. Memory gives greater performance leaps than CPU's =p

And that goes for the cards too, which matters even more that regular motherboard RAM. Graphics cards of today should use a minimum of 512 MB, which I've got... but the next time I upgrade I would like to cross the 1GB barrier. More memory = more renders ^_^ And BFME2 needs a LOT of renders on screen at the same time :xd:

RAM isn't everything... My poor x700 64mb is still chugging along and can run BFME2 on Ultra (though not really well I'll admit).

I really don't do requests and my Arnor Soldier is not fit for BFME. Don't ask me for either.

9, but it only goes up to SM 2.0, so I can't run anything with say, HDR or advanced shaders.

So what is the card in your other machine?
...

NVIDIA GeForce 6600. On the widescreen TV station/comp/multimediaplatform. Which is not mine and not always available. Runs smooth on HIGH settings. About20fps on ULTRAHIGH. Which is one of the reasons our one and only game was so 'interruptive' right from the start. :p

LOL if you have got the money, go for the Nvidia 8800 Ultra. I bet you cna run UH with no lag at all and stunning graphics! That thing is *expensive* though...

P.S.: It *is* F12 to take screens right...? And if so, where do they go.... I'm having trouble finding them.....

"Prt Scr" is what I use, then Alt+TAB and open an image program like Photoshop or similar and Paste the image there =)

Yeah... still better than my old desktop though, though that Radeon 9600 had served me well for aaages. I also like the freedom of being able to drag it anywhere with little effort ;). And it runs Supreme Commander and Dawn of War on decent settings, and they're almost all I play...

I always have problems with FX effects, like Gandalf's lightning sword or saruman's fireball. Not that much of a problem in Bfme2, but it KILLS in C&C3. I have 1 gig of ram, dual 1.8ghz processors, and a geforce fx 7600 GS graphics card. Do i need more RAM, or is it the card?

BTW srry for turning this into a tech support thread. Just taking advantage of the present expertise. :ninja:

No that's fine, they're related =)

Anyway, hard to say... Your card is a generation 7 like mine (7900GTX), but I'm not sure about the specs compared side by side... I guess they are noticable though since my card was the biggest in the series (when I got it last winter for around $500). Today it will get whopped by the 8800... but, I'd put my cents on your RAM though. My 2Gb of RAM help a lot in most situations.

It's pretty funny that a game being so "old" as BFME2 is now, that it is still SO demanding on the computer? :/

It's partially because they're demanding so much out of the SAGE engine. I mean, it's come a long way since the original C&C, but it just can't handle newer stuff as well. The only reason why upcoming games like Starcraft 2, or released games like Supreme Commander can look so spectacular is because they have awesome game engines. Games like BfME2 or C&C3 (which has the EXACT same texture quality and anim style as BfME2) are trying to run new technology on dated engines. If BFME2's engine had been updated more extensively, or if they used a completely different one (with Havoc =D) you coulda pumped a lot more out of it.

Whoo, hardware knowlegde here ^ ;)
Yeah that sounds resonable... even though, one would think that a modern kick ass computer would handle old games like Neo handles the Agents in the end of the first movie... ;)

But I guess not all things are logical when it comes to computers... :/

Indeed, computers are retarded. Logic doesn't work with them. Older software works the best with older components. The bad part about Vista is that it ahs very little backwards compatibility, so even things that run on XP might not work. There's also the compatibility of the game to take into account. Games aren't dynamic, meaning they don't learn about new hardware, so they can't assess what you're running them with, unless the gaming company is actually smart and patches it (unlike EA =P).

There may be some aspects of the engine you can mod, but remember that every switch does something. My guess is that most of it is hardcoded, tho. Addons might work, though...but that's still a lot of work.
