He sells Bill the Pony to the hobbits in Bree, and then shows up again when they return to the shire and it's overrun by ruffians.

Oh, ok. Thanks.

So he's a man (not a hobbit) right? I wonder what Nazgul will say...
Ignited into the world in a flash of lightning, it gleams faintly in the heart of its mother, wood. It begins as an ember, a mere wisp of heat and colour. Its chance of survival at this critical moment is minute, yet it fights on, against the unforgiving cold, against the depths of night and against its mortal enemy: rain.

yeah he's a man in Bree who is "secretly" working for Saruman. he helps the nazgul to find frodo when they're at the prancing pony, and he is also the one in charge of the gate when the 4 hobbits return in 'the scouring of the shire'

Correct. I am a bit rusty on the books, but I think that he did other things as well such as informing a Nazgul on the Hobbits (possibly for a reward) and I think that it is implied that he released all the horses and ponies in the stables, meaning that the Hobbits had to buy Bill. A nasty piece of work, but more a bully rather than a fighter.

Tongue in cheek?

'I am glad,' said Frodo. 'For I have become very fond of Strider. Well, fond is not the right word. I mean he is dear to me; though he is strange, and grim at times. In fact, he reminds me often of you. I didn't know that any of the Big People were like that. I thought, well, that they were just big, and rather stupid: kind and stupid like Butterbur; or stupid and wicked like Bill Ferny. But then we don't know much about Men in the Shire, except perhaps the Breelanders.'

Whether or not he was a hobbit, he is a human :D :xcahik_:
I don't think he would fit very well as a hero though... He didn't do anything directly to harm any of the hobbits, if my memory is correct...

I'd rather go for a war-hungry invented captain of Dunland ;)

Ferny was basically the village thug of Bree. After he started a brawl that killed a few Bree-folk he was exiled. He joined up with Saruman's ruffians and became a leader, guarding the Brandywine Bridge. However, he was driven away by Pippin, Merry, and Sam's pony, and was never seen again. :xcahik_:

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.

Oh, he was a human! :thumbsupsmiley: I apologize!

(if I can't remember that, then its high time I reread the book.. :) )

I would go for both Ferny and a war-hungry invented captain of Dunland! :)

Hi all,

If you need a name for a Dunlending Hero, in the old Middle-earth RPG they used Gaelic ones for Dunlendings. I have made a quick search of Gaelic names and I have selected a few:

Camden ('From the winding valley'), Cathmor ('Great warrior'), Doran (A wanderer or stranger), Fergal (Man of valour), Fiachra (a raven).

However, latest reserches point to Pictish names as a more suitable source for Dunlending ones:
Pictish names list

Hope it helps.

why not have some sort of hero killer? like a unit that can kill heros easily. something that can counter the heros well, but are weak against other stuff. gives people a choice to either kill heros, or have heros killing people, since there is the command point limit.

just a thought ;)

Good idea. I think the hobbit units are strong against heroes.
And that way heroes are still strong, but not unbelieveably so.

I think the elite units are supposed to do that. Not sure if it's already in beta 4.5 though.

I think I may have come up with a way to have select revivable heroes from multiple buildings. I believe this was something that was wanted in this mod :thumbsupsmiley:

Unfortunately, I haven't tested it yet, but I'm pretty sure it will work, as I have something similar in my mod. I'll test it, though, before I go off on it.

I thought I should still mention it, though.
Greetings, community.

This is just a thought but rohan/gondor heroes. I was wondering as a sort of dedication to the amazing work John Howe and Alan Lee have done in the movies and in the books over these many years that they could be made into heroes to be purchased from the inn. Similar to how we have peter jackson in his pirate costume. One a gondor hero and one a rohan hero. They don't have to be super strong or anything like that but I thought this might be a nice tribute to them as well :p

Hundreds of other things to do before this can even be thought about again but if I don't right this down I'll probably forget it :)
No chance of returning....Zero chance of surviving....Well!? When do we get started?

I figured I wouldn't be able to fix a problem all these experienced coders haven't :p

I have run into an unexpected error because of something I didn't fully calculate... I should have seen it coming.

Hmmm... The way I see it, Eagles are smarter than Fellbeasts or Dragons. From what I know, Eagles are stronger than Dragons. Fellbeasts are larger than Eagles, though, but I'd say far less intelligent. I picture Eagles being faster and more maneuverable than Fellbeasts, and perhaps a bit stronger, but with a smaller radius of splash damage and knockback.

Dragons are probably somewhere in between... More intelligent than Fellbeasts, but weaker than Eagles. Fire-breathing is really their thing, too, as opposed to just swooping down and crushing a bunch of guys. They also continue to grow forever, I think, so many older Dragons could be much larger than any Fellbeast or Eagle, but in general there were mostly younger Dragons like Smaug around.

And the "Fellbeasts" referred to here are equal to WK's Fellbeast, which is probably the largest and strongest of the lot; all the Nazgul's Fellbeasts are probably unnaturally large for the species, but WK's would be the greatest. The others might be equal to or smaller than eagles in size, though still weaker, slower, and clumsier.

I could see Eagles being good anti-heroes, though. Fellbeasts and Dragons would probably be weaker against Heroes, but eagles stronger.

Just my opinion and vision, of course.
