There are a couple of classics missing from the unit lineup yet, and today's update will hopefully fill in one of them. For pure anti-capital power, the Empire can of course turn to its infamous star destroyers, or on a smaller note, the IPV, but there's really nothing in between them that can excel at that role. Fortunately, there is such a ship in the canon, and they call it the Strike-class Medium Cruiser.

Now, the Strike cruiser is good at one thing, and that is punching holes in larger ships - and if any frigates happen to get in the way, well, they won't stay there for long. It is armed with 40 cannons situated on 25 turrets, the majority of which are uniquely affixed to the ventral side of the hull, which gives it good coverage at the cost of a dorsal blind spot. At 450 meters, this ship barely missed out on being a frigate itself, and it still retains the speed necessary to run down the smaller ships and catch them in its 10 tractor beams. Despite the superiority against capitals, the Strike-class is completely vulnerable to bombers and must rely on a fighter screen. The rest of its stats and corresponding image can be found under the Units page, per usual.

I love the model. That ship will be a great counter to those Recusant cruisers u added. Do u make the models urself, Phoenix?

Okay... Holding off the spazzing for a moment. I remember that thing having a much brighter "shell", and a thicker front end- less like a nose, much flatter.

Almost all the previous pictures show it like that at any rate. Such as http://starwars.wiki...ike_Cruiser.jpg

Wookiepedia, I know, but a few searches turn up many pictures that show a near-identical appearance.

But, honestly? I dun' care- Strike cruiser awesomness! *Dances around the forums chanting it's name* Gods I adore that ship. Hehehehe.

It might be non-canon, but honestly I think it'd just be so fitting to give it the Strike ability- a few seconds of supercharged shots. Now if only you could record a specialised voice clip for it...

"All weapons- full yield!"

"Empty the reactors, I want that target gone now!"

EvilleJedi makes all of the models and textures, but they come in Homeworld 2 format, so I have to convert them over to EaW and rig the weapons.

Imrix, the map editor camera tends to fisheye as I get closer to things, so it skews the proportions a bit, but it does make ships look huge and ominous . It actually is a beautiful model.

I didn't give it Thrawn's old Strike ability, but it does have the standard cruiser Power to Weapons (150% damage for 15 seconds), so it can offer a pretty nasty barrage that leaves frigates looking pretty sore.

Like always, very nice work done.

This can sound repetive, but what about a release date ?

Is there something of an idea you can give us ?

thx !

No, not yet; I'm not that close. For now, I'm sticking with before Q4.

This is awesome. Hit'n'Run fleets using these with Lancers for support and Skiprays ought to make for a nasty raid fleet. I can see it now...

Computer: "Incoming Fleet at Yavin Four."
Player: "Alright, I've got this handled. I'll just swarm the capitals with bombers while corvettes and frigates tie up the fighters."
Computer: "Begin Battle."
Player: "WTF!? Where'd all my fighters, and Nebulon-B's, and Corvettes go?"

Hrm, It'd be more expensive, but I wonder if pairing two Strike-cruisers with two Lancers would be better than just using a pair of Acclamators in my taskforces. This is definitely something to think about.

Probably so, but the Lancers would require more micromanagement since they have such short ranges.
