Topic moved to the right place and I voted PSP, but for some reason my vote disappeared.

Edit: there I put it back.

PSP wins in every department (graphics, multimedia, and storage), but most of the time it comes down to personal taste (DS being cheaper and apealing to a differnt audience). Just do what my brother did get both. ;)

Get a DS, better games.

plus alot of the games are anime-ish, so you'd probably like that being an anime fan and all, god knows I do.

I personally prefer the DS. Whilst the PSP has better hardware, I find that there are a lot more games on the DS / GBA that I enjoy, and of course there's the occasional game that makes good use of the touchscreen or heavy multi player capabilities of the DS.

Get an R5 card, and a 4Gb SD card, and the DS all of a sudden has better storage than the PSP, it becomes your Mp3 player, a portable movie player and has access to MSN Messenger and it's better for taking notes than a laptop, because it's smaller and has a better battery life.

Not to mention all the other homebrew apps out there you can take advantage of, without having to flash your system and potentially break it :D

DS Lite for what Ambershee said.
I've got an R4DS cart and it's all kinds of win, goes in the normal DS game slot (with nothing sticking out) and takes a micro SD card.

SNES, NES, Genesis, Gameboy, etc emulators. Organiser type applications. Media capabilities. Homebrew games. Ported games (Lemmings, Doom and Quake for example).
And absolutely no messing around with firmware like PSP.
Google DS homebrew and see what you can find.

You can leave it turned on in your pocket with the lid closed if you ever needed it in a hurry (battery supposedly lasts around a week in sleep mode).

I think a good way to judge these things is by looking in second hand shops once both items have been out a fair while.
Was in town today and the 3 gaming shops had a 4/5 PSPs each, but I only saw one shop with one DS (and that was the old chunky version).

Unless you want to use the internet and have an up to date wireless network at home or whatever, then the DS is useless because it doesn't support WPA security and Nintendo don't seem to be doing anything about it.

Neither if you're not going to use a custom firmware on the PSP or some form of flash cart for the DS. Although if you insist on one the DS has better games, the PSP has half arsed console ports if you're into that kind of stuff though.

As stated (in my ever so humble opinion) the PSP has a pretty shit line up of titles except a small number (Guilty Gear Judgement, MGS PO... none others come to mind) but also has the whole PSX emulation shit going on allowing stuff like Final Fantasy VII through IX, Crash Bandicoot, MGS, ResiEvil 1-3, Castlevania SOTN etc. (on custom firmwares only mind). If you want a portable movie and music player the PSP is alright but if you actually have any amount of music isn't really worth using. With homebrew it's also an excellent e-book reader (mine gets its main use from that), Emulator for SNES, NES, Megadrive etc. games (anything newer than a NES the DS does poorly). There's also a lot of support and a more active community in regards to homebrew etc.

The DS has a lot of titles which I actually like (Megaman ZX/ZX Advent, Castlevania DoS, Castlevania PoR, MK:DS, MP:H, Tetris DS, Pokeymanz, NSMB, Yoshi's Island DS, Taiko Drum Master, Starfox etc.) if you get a flash cart of some sort it also becomes a movie and music player (no it doesn't have better storage Ambershee, the PSP can take 8gb MemSticks), it works basically as well as the PSP does for those - with much reduced quality all around. Generally speaking, the homebrew scene fails miserably for the DS in comparison to the PSP, it has a better MSN messenger client but that's only as it has a touch screen. Most other things work way better when using a PSP instead (emulation, ebooks and the like).

Also, no matter which you buy people with IQs lower than 80 will argue you've made the wrong choice and that you're a sony fanboy or a nintendo fanboy depending on which they dislike.

DS:
Normal games wise it is good
Homebrew wise... It does everything a PSP does without custom firmware, but fails to do anything better than a homebrew enabled PSP.

PSP:
Fails miserably normal games wise
Has nearly perfect support for all PS1 games.
Wins epicly with a CFW due to superior homebrew.

If you have the money, get both. If you don't, save up and get both. Regardless of everything said, the PSP is superior as it allows you to have FFVII on the go.

And absolutely no messing around with firmware like PSP.

Only strictly true for DS Slot solutions. GBA slot solutions will need a PassMe or the FlashMe firmware installed. Plus the risk of bricking a PSP is very low if you've an IQ high enough to read instructions before trying to mess around with the firmware.
It's also the DS' lack of a real way to update firmware that means it'll never support WPA. It has something like 12 bytes of memory that can be updated via a game (Mario Kart: DS enabled wi-fi using some of that space iirc.)

Well, it's not like you couldn't buy a 16 or 32 Gb SD Card if you wanted to, it's just that 4Gb cards cost about 7 pounds, or 4 dollars these days :good:
