So it's been a little while since the last news post, but believe me, this one is worth the wait. With three new structures to unveil, this is basically three news posts wrapped into one. Why wait until all three were finished before posting? Well it would've ruined the surprise!

As you know, I put special structures in space for the first time a few weeks ago, but with only one platform, the options weren't terribly exciting. This, however, is where it starts to change the game. As a series, these three structures are arguably the most notorious of space stations - and those can be none other than the Golan series.

The Golan Space Defense SpaceGun, Golan II Space Defense SpaceGun, and Golan III Space Defense NovaGun have all been added to Phoenix Rising! I know more than a couple fans wanted to see these added, so here they are. While starbases are flimsy, these stations were designed to tank heavy fire. And since they all share similar armaments of standard turbolasers, heavy proton torpedoes, and tractor beams, they can dish it out pretty well too. While such weapons make the Golans vulnerable to bomber attacks, they are able to scramble a few fighter squadrons to protect against all but the most concentrated of assaults. Their exact stats are currently filling up the Space subsection of the Structures page, so go check those out. They're pretty much a hybrid of the original WEG specs with some XWA values.

As far as actual gameplay is concerned, because these are structures and not units, they will not be featured as upgrades, even though that may seem like a natural solution. Currently, the only restrictions on building the Golans - besides slots and cost - is the starbase level: Golan Is are buildable at any level 2 starbase, Golan IIs at any level 3 starbase, and Golan IIIs at any level 4 starbase. All in all, they provide an excellent deterrent to attacking key worlds, with the NovaGun capable of defeating anything of capital class or smaller in single combat.

Holy woot!

Finally, some freaking orbital defences! Golans, too, which I like.

Still no sign of a ring of satellites for construction, but what the hey- Strike Cruisers and Golans. I am happy.

Pheonix, I hereby declare you to be made of Win. That is all. You should put it in your profile or something as your custom message.

Awesome!

I really expected the Golan Series to be in the original game. Thanks for putting them in!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Thanks for adding em Phoenix!!!!
Btw, one question, will you be able to add more than one Golan III or will it be restricted to one like the gravity well generators and long range scanners? Or will it let you build more than one of em, and also how much do each of the platforms cost?

Thanks for answering my questions! *sigh* Too bad Lucasarts didn't hire you.......-

Btw, one question, will you be able to add more than one Golan III?

The only restriction is the number of special slots the planet gets, which I'm currently capping at four for the most important worlds.

also how much do each of the platforms cost?

They're not cheap; the cost is currently 5000 for the original Golan, 12000 for the Golan II, and 16000 for the Golan III, but that's already changed a few times. The XQ5 is 3000 to compare. You also have to pay for the fighter complement too, so the actual prices are higher (although the Empire's is cheaper because of the TIE Fighters).

*sigh* Too bad Lucasarts didn't hire you.......-

I haven't graduated yet :good:.

Phoenix, depending on how many Golans u can have in orbit(maybe some planets can have a lot, or some could have just 1), will they eliminate the need for a starbase?

Wow, looking great Phoenix ! It must have taken you a long time to code those in, what will all the hardpoints, etc.

EDIT: Cant you flip the threads in the news section, cos now the most recent ones are on the second page, or would this mess up with the feed on the mod's site ?

Great work with the golans PR good to see them in action

got an idea if you want it
mmm i wonder if you could change the model of the EAW station to/or include the rebel alliance station to the one seen in X-wing Alliance http://starwars.wiki.../Rebel_Platform just a thought it could allow for some faction customization, maybe giving some econmic or trade benefits? even increaded radar range or ship range? just a random thought.

Cause was just thinking where the devs got the idea for the EAW station from, i mean the upgrade system makes sense probably why they used it.

Could also possibly add in the shipyards as a way of reducing the cost or time of vessels to construct as another idea for space advancement.

Sorry i keep giving more ideas no help at all with editing so if you need anyone to do research just msg me

Well, right now, starbases still build your units, but I'm not done messing with it.

Yeah, that's been annoying me too, but I don't have admin privileges to change that. I'll see if it can be swapped.

I don't think I have a model for that.
