Yeah. I won't waste your time with what you know/think I'm gonna say.

I'll just ask why.

And yes. If you delete this simple question I'll just repost it.

The religion thread and the other one about stuff that pisses people off were both locked for no reason whatsoever. Also Spence tells me he was demoted from moderating the Think Tank area. No reason, no motive, not even a PM to tell him why.

Therefore I feel I must protest.

Your dealings with Spence are between you and him unless you demoted him unjustly (then I'd step in). As for the threads...there's no reason on this Earth to lock em.

Im wondering about the lock on the religion topic too. It's possible for moderators to lock a topic by clicking on the folder symbol. Perhaps that accidently happened?

Doubtful considering spence got demoted at same time as lock was instated. No need to lock the topic I posted in protesting about it. By all means delete my post, but unlock the friggin' topics...jeez...there's no need for em to be locked...

In all honesty, I just got home from a 9 hour day. I didn't realise what Ash was talking about though I just noticed the religion thread was locked. I didn't notice the other one.

I hope you're not talking to me? I didn't lock anything or demote a single soul. I simply just got home from work.

I'll unlock the one you posted in to complain, but I'm not touching the religion one.
Edit: Also deleted the post btw.

While the reason was not explained, the lock has been discussed with admins. So it wasn't just a random lock. The outcome of the discussion was that a line was crossed a few pages back, beyond what I had looked at.

Which line was crossed? Why didn't those posts a few pages back get deleted a few pages back? Or delete them now, and unlock the 54 page long thread that has for the vast majority been a coherent on topic discussion,

A simple explaination is posted in the topic now. A moral line was crossed.

Don't know why the choice was to lock the topic, instead of removing the posts. Since every moderator knows the option of removing posts, I suspect they had a reason for that choice.

I'm going to read back into the topic tomorrow.

And there went the last vestige of respect I actually had for you guys. :p I find it really fucked up that a number of you admins posted in that topic anyway, and then randomly decided later to lock it. Two of you certainly posted AFTER whatever it is you deemed offensive or whatever. And to do this crap without even so much as an explanation or a fuck-you? How's that fair? For all we know someone just went crazy. Wait, "went"?

Oh and Hostile, no I wasn't speaking directly at you. By 'you' I was referring to all admins. Since I don't know who is responsible for all this going ahead, I can't really point a finger.

I am glad to see some sense must have been spoken somewhere in the mort throne room. I imagine Gamemate's now getting an undeserved fucking for going against an NL decision. Well, I say good on him.

Yes, you're right. Closing a topic should go with an explaination. Certainly such an active and sensitive one.

I don't know who agreed to close the topic either, nor do I need to know. It's possible that the two you name were not among them. It's equally possible that they didn't bother to read the complete topic, but commented on the last few posts. The topic is constantly shifting afterall.

In my oppinion the lock was meant to be temporary. All that was needed was to give a heads up that a line was crossed. You can say that it was too late, that's true, but it was better to give the sign late than never. Else we could end up in a situation where the rules are broken again and people start arguing that it was alright to break them at this time.

It is unfortunate that the heads up was only done in a symbolic manner. On the other hand, a simple message alone wouldn't have done the job, so there would have been a lock anyway.

So, tho unfortunate in the execution, the decision to close the topic was certainly right.
The lock definetly got everyones attention, which was it's purpose. Now a reminder of the rules has been posted the discussion can continue, as long as it keeps to the rules. Another break is another (temp) lock. This wasn't the first lock, and I suspect it won't be the last either.

...or the moderator(s) could start moderating. Both themselves as much as others.

The lock was wrong. A simple post saying "keep it clean, folks," preferably one posted in good time, would have surely sufficed.

Some of the mods are pretty statist and Stalinistic in that area, in my view it should be free from intervention providing it doesn't go to personal threats in the liberal way of freedom of speech. People who lock them often have no idea what is being discussed or have the knowledge to understand why, in my view you should have kept Spence or someone of that sort of calibre in that area to moderate discussion and not have the general wide admin team interfering.

Ash, sometimes you talk and trully have no clue what you're talking about. Gamemate, blaat, and myself decided to reopen the thread and we decided to do it with some words making sure people understand there are some limits.

Seeing Gamemate locked it in the first place, it's his undo honour to unlock if he wanted to. Which he decided to do. See, there is no conspiracy Ash, no one defied a NL, there is no juicy conspiracy to read about in the Revora tabloids. He locked the thread till we all talked about how to fix it. Then he reopened it. :good:

You're such a drama queen ready to take a swing at any NL anyway you can think of. Just roll over and go back to sleep little boy. All is well in dreamy land.

ummm, i think the reason that most of us are very ready to take a swing at an NL is because most of the NLs are very willing to use their powers in favor of themselves and their opinions over those who don't have moderator powers.

i think the closing of the religion topic is a good example; yeah you said you discussed it but it was done without warning. and honestly, what do you expect out of a topic that deals with religion? most of it is going to be nonsensical bickering because that's mostly what religion and the lack thereof is. to close it based up on that is ridiculous - you might as well ask Prime not to flame or ask a cat not to sleep.

this is a public forum frequented by many people of many different backgrounds, and that is why it is such a great place to express and develop our thoughts on religion, even if that comes out nosensical bickering. i back up Ash all the way in his NL bashing because i do think that it is deserved for a lot of the actions taken, especially the closing of topics, deleting of posts that "you" don't like, and editing posts that you feel aren't appropriate. this isn't just your forum, this is all of our forum, but i feel that you forget this most of time from the actions you take towards moderating this forum according to the way that you feel it should be.

OK, i'm not going to get into the argument, but: ihateharriers: You do realize that this kinda is their forum right? Seeing as the NL's are paying for it.

Now, remind me what did you do to make this forum yours?

This is a myth, honestly. A discussion where someone dictates their opinion over others is not a discussion and is not fun either. If we acted like that, do you think that, right now, this topic would be opened and your words unedited? Think twice.. we are not the kind of people that you think we are...

deleting of posts that "you" don't like

No, we need to make sure that the Forum Guideliness are followed and respected in order to have a peaceful place. If someone post flames, even in my favour, I have to act against the flames.

but i feel that you forget this most of time from the actions you take towards moderating this forum according to the way that you feel it should be.

We set a set of rules in order to make sure that the forum is peacefull, is a place where we can exchange ideas in an interesting and fun way. We don't know the perfect formula to achieve this objective, so we create a formula where we think that we will get the closest possible to this objective and we enforce the rules in order to this formula works. So, in some way, we moderate in the way we feel it should be done, but if you think we are wrong and there are better ways to do it, we are all ears... or eyes... whatever.

What is not cool is people creating this kind of factoide where we are dictators, facists and against freedom of expression. It's not what we are. We defend freedom, with responsability. You can speak what you want, as long as you respect the others in the forum. Read the forum guidelines, the Objectives and About Us section in the Revora site and we'll find out what we really want...
