When i build my new model ingame the only way to select it is to draw a box around it, you cant just click on the it, is there a way to fix this.

Thanks

Most likely this is a bounding box problem. Are you sure you have a bounding box and have the right exporting settings (I think it should be OBBox, but check the documentation for reliable info)?

I removed the bounding box because it appeared in the game so the unit was just a bit square?

You need to go to the utilities tab in max, then to W3D tools.
Select the bounding box mesh and click the OBBox (it might say Bounding Box actually) option in the W3D tools rollout.

That tells the game to consider your box as a bounding box rather than part of the model.

I don't know of a tool to do it (because I prefer to do stuff by hand), but you can do it by extruding either side which would mean you had 3 rows of vertexes to position into a curved edge rather than a sharp edge.

W3D Tools settings for a bounding box are:
- Export Geometry
- OBBox
- Hide

Everything else leave unchecked.
I'm in the process of getting it all written out. Sorry for the delay, couldn't work on it in Iraq. ;)

Select a vertex and hit the chamfer button on the right toolbar. You might have to scroll down a bit to see the button, it's under the extrude button.

I have. The tutorial is based in gmax but the basic fundamentals are still the same for 3DS Max.
More advanced one coming soon.

No.

It was the main tool for Generals though, since the W3D exporter only worked in gmax and not 3DS Max.
The new exporters for W3X were released for 3DS Max cos autodesk no longer supports gmax as an official product.
