Maybe a bit of both would be good.
There might not be enough in the movies alone while it would take forever to do everything ourselves.

I'm tempted to say that lifting footage from the movies without permission is illegal and could get the mod closed faster than you can say "lifting footage from the movies without permission is illegal".

So I'm going to have to go with 'make them ourselves'

I'm with TiJiL on this. Using copyrighted ideas and possibly sound is one thing. Using whole scenes of the movies is quite serious though and I think they won't keep their eyes closed if we do that. Unless we ask and get permission to do so (unlikely).

Besides the obvious copyright issues, I think it would just be a nicer touch overall if the cutscenes were made ingame. Makes it fit in well with the actual gameplay.

True.

Different topic though, should we make them in Max or ingame on scripted maps?

I would agree max because unless you want the characters to just stand their while they talk instead showing emotion you would need to use max.

It would make more sense to make your own. It would be alot funner too.

Yeah, and we can always use higher poly characters and better lighting. Plus I do have some kick-ass environment models that we can use.

Maybe we'll do a combination of both, like some scripted map cinematics, but sometimes there will be high-res 3ds Max footage.

Use WB for full-scale battle clips and Max when we want to focus on a couple of dudes hanging around, such as a Jedi giving instructions to clones or something.

Using max for a few random cutscenes would probably look a bit weird, and ingame stuff is just nicer overall. Stick the higher poly models used for cutscenes with facial animations ingame soley for the purpose of cutscenes and you can use the game's environments with the high poly models. I mean, if your going to make them anyway, why not put them in the actual game.

Yeah, that is a good point. We can use the higher poly models ingame on scripted maps.

And again, it would take forever to render many frames on a high-detail environment in Max.

As long as it didnt lag game or something. I saw some really nice scripted movies from maps for Bfme2 that
were lagged to hell just because camera angles an such. So as long as we can stay off these problems i am for it.

And again, it would take forever to render many frames on a high-detail environment in Max.

I have access to one really good computer with max9 instaled that is free at weekends. So i belive that i can render even really long scenes

@Yoda: Yeah, we'll definitely end up doing them ourselves.

@Cahik: That's really awesome. I have in my possession a bunch of really great environment models that would make for some awesome cinematics.

If we do the cinematics ourselves, I just hope you don't expect to compose all the music ourselves too...

I assume using Star Wars music would be fine, it's been used in other mods before.

Look at World In Conflict by the way - the ingame cutscenes in there are great, and use dialogue close up etc. It'll just fit better with the graphics ingame imo - it'll have the same lighting and environments as the maps you'll soon be fighting over.

Why don't you do neither star wars music or your own made music but put in the song "Make your own kind of Music" By Mama Cass.
