I'm looking for a gallery system for my portfolio site, this seems a sensible place to ask about them.

I'd like it's layout to be clean, have the style easily customisable (colours at least), with a thumbnail grid.
Clicking a thumbnail should bring up a window like the attached, or at least with the content shown in the attached.
I don't mind a small fee if it means I get a nice system without "This was made by whoever" plastered all over it.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Quite honestly, I like lightbox for doing large size images. It doesn't do a popup, but a quite nice clean overlay for the page.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Is that the thing where it opens a flash "window" with the image in?

I want to avoid anything that requires plugins. It's pretty unlikely that someone could not have flash or java but it's possible and is it's a portfolio the last thing I want is people being turned off as they're not able to access it without the extra install.

To be honest I can probably code it myself if I can get hold of a page.php from a site that uses PHP content echo stuff.
I don't know the proper name for it, but it's the thing where it displays a certain page when you click a link but the page is stored as a .inc and you only have the one .php. There's also a chunk of code that goes at the top of the .php page.

Edit:
Which I've just found in a really old site of mine on my PC... :good:

Lightbox ftw.

This folio WIP might interest you, the system is very nice.

I quite like the look of jGallery for a php solution. It could be simpler, but works smoothly. I'd tweak the output though for better standards complience and semantic goodiness/css flexability...
Lightbox is a classic for a reason though, if you don't need gallery organisation.

Picked up Gallery 2 after looking on Godwin's site.
Seems to work nicely.

I'm not very sure if this one is as safe as it seems...
