I've had a bunch of them 3D unit pics sitting on my comp for ages now so I thought it was about time to add them to the site. There are over a dozen new ones, I wont post them here so go have look for your self :) There are also new versions of a few of the old ones too taken with the latest vxl viewer (still need to redo the jap ones tho). I made a few changes to some the gallery pages too & removed old unused units, some of which where removed from the mod over a year ago XD

Lastly I've got one (yer just the one) new unit to show, the Soviet Zulu class submarine. I'm using the later Zulu subs which where are armed with SCUD missiles! I was originally going to give the Soviets a carrier like everyone else but decided to make them a bit more interesting.

And oh yeah, red tide !! :) :) (diversity is good)

I remember you saying the Scud-1 launcher was too far out of your time-frame to include in the mod, so I assume the Scud-sub predates that?

Oh, and is the lack of a Soviet carrier also kind of a parting jab to you-know-who who had a huge socially awkward boner for them?
Being a total douche.

It does. The Project 611 (NATO reporting name "Zulu") submarine was developed in '51 and launched in '52, whereas the R-11 (NATO reporting name "SS-1 Scud") wass finalized in 1957.

The dispatchency comes from the fact that the Zulu was developed as an Attack Submarine, and later converted to carry R-11's.

If you really want Ballistic Missile Zulu's you could say they launched R-1's (NATO: "SS-1 Scunner") which were developed in the late '40s.

Man, you look like you know a lot when reading wikipedia...

Well my stance on stringently keeping to the 1955 cut off have loosened in order to add some more variety to the sides.

The Zulu class was built from 1952 as attack subs but one of them was modified into a SLBM sub & carry one F-11 SCUD missile, which it test fired on Sep 16th 1955. After that six more were converted to carry two missiles. These are the ones that I’ve added to D-day, they however didn’t come into service until around 1958.

When you mention the SCUD-1 I presume you mean the FROG-1 that I was thinking about adding instead of the Bm-24. The FROG is just within the 1955 cut off however it didn’t really come into full service until a year later etc. Back when I made the decision not to use it I was still thinking within the late 40s for the post war time frame. It could still sneak in after the beta testing but it would probably be very over powered, basically being a nuclear tipped V-2 missile fired from a tank!

As a side note the ground based version of the F-11 SCUD didn’t go into service until 1957 & the naval version fired in 1955 was probably one of the test missiles.
