please note.. killing the instant build does NOT solve this problem.. is just makes it alil more managable by giving you more time.. even after the instant build was taken off I was still hit with 50+ and one time 80+ skiprays.. I forgot where that file is.. it's in one of the topics but it's long lost in my memory lol. sorry..

now.. E-wings and Barloz are good counters to skiprays.. mind you they do need a few upgrades first.. fully upgraded K-wings are also okay against them.. but E-wings do better.. X-wings also work.. but not as good until they are fully upgraded.. just a few ideas on dealing with the menance

I tried a little experiment last night with A-Wings fully upgraded they make awesome skipray hunters. they are sooo fast and get off a snap hot of concussion missiles before doing a quick fly-by with blasters firing. They are the easiest to use a fast response ships to counter other smaller craft by far. I did try B-Wings but even the fully upgraded one's got owned by the skiprays because of that blasted turret :shiftee: . I didn't think A-Wings would be any good because they are so lightly shielded but they are so damn fast nothing can track them and get an accurate shot off. i was also using them against the SPC's (although somewhat less successfully). It's great that this mod has such a diverse list of units you can try various units against each other. I will definitely give K-Wings a try next though as they look really powerful and I have not upgraded these at all yet as I was going for the more classic A-Wing, B-Wing, Y-Wing, X-Wing combo  . I also have not really upgraded the barloz much. I didn't realise to start with that they even generated income which is cool. But with some improvements to shields, speed and armament they could be quite formidable. I'll try those too, thanks.

A-wings do work great if the engagment size is small.. meaning no more then a few skipray grups to a single a_wing (personally I wouldn't try it with more then 2 - 1 odds) .. E-wings are fast and MUCH better sheilded and armor is higher as well.. their advanced torps can be fired on skiprays as well.. (I saw a few launchs) they can handle skiprays at almost any odds and come out withot a scratch on them.. K-wings work well because they have turrented laser cannons.. which make it easy to track and target the skiprays... XJ7's also own skiprays.. though, and I hate saying this, not as well as E-wings.. yeah those A-wings get there alot faster.. but I have gotten caught sometimes by 6 - 8 skipray groups against 2 A-wing squads.. it did not go well.. lost 1 A-wing squad before backup (XJ7s) arrived.. they do work great.. just watch the engagment size :evgr:.. the Barloz do "okay" against skiprays due to turrent lasers and missles.. but faster more nimble fighters do a much better job (plus the fighters are alot better armed when fully upgraded)

I am hoping I don't sound ignorant asking this  but I too have had the enormous amounts of Skiprays and they can be lethal against my early Rebel fleets.

Yeah, the AI goes a little crazy when I let it pick its own fleets. I'm basically saying, "build 4 fighters, build 2 frigates, etc." I was hoping it would be somewhat random, but it just seems to always pick the most powerful ships, so I have to force it to diversify. I've already done this in Skirmish, but GC is going to be harder, because I want to add upgrades to that list too. It's on the docket though.

E-wings are probably the natural choice against the Skipray. You're really going to need a lot of laser output to bring down its heavy shields and good hull, which is effectively even better with jamming (another reason not to use missiles). The E-wing can also eat a few concussion missiles before going down, so even better. B-wings might work in a pinch, but they lack the speed advantage to intercept. X-wings become quite effective as well once they get stutter fire, although they are vulnerable to missiles. The Barloz-class doesn't have the same kind of damage output as a regular squadron, but it's extremely durable as you upgrade, so it will simply outlast Skiprays in a firefight. By the way, if you haven't upgraded them yet, they get aft-firing concussion missile launchers (nasty smuggler trick ;)), so if you group them with faster fighters, they become an effective rear guard. On the capital side, the Recusant is the nastiest thing you can use on them, being an oversized frigate with point-defense.

E-wings are fast and MUCH better sheilded and armor is higher as well.. their advanced torps can be fired on skiprays as well.. (I saw a few launchs)

Hmm, that's not supposed to happen...
