Hmmm. Good question. They're kind of useless against Mobile Suits. I've got it. The infantry are in the half-tracks! Like the Desert Dawn with their RPG's or bazooka's. Now, what of those linear cannons that were cannon fodder in the first episode?

Nah i dont think infantry are a good idea. Unless all of them are barry ho clones, i dont see them carrying any weapons good enough to kill any MS, and the reverse is not true. Practically any MS based weapon can kill infantry pretty fast, the only downside would be that its a waste of ammo or energy.

Ah yes, if there is no djibril, there is no SEED destiny. If there was no SEED destiny, i would still love SEED.

Hmmmm As a fun sidenote, the linnear cannons would damage an MS if they actually hit their marks. too bad the MS are alot move agile lol.

We've seen the damage in Stargazer, if you havnt watched yet,(which I highly doubt) go watch it NOW!!!!! it's good lol

Yes yes, of course. Its all the explorer's fault, crusader, yup.... :p

Anyway, actually stagazer may prove the very opposite. Recall that to take down the ginn, the tank had to be in close-range and fire 3 rapid shots so as to hit the same armor location rapidly. It implies that at medium to long range, the linear cannon is practically useless. Also, the ginn's armor has to take multiple shots at the same location to go down.

Im not so sure how good the tanks really are, but i saw quite a number of them being screwed by one ginn in that ep.

Yes, we all know that tanks, trucks and all non mobile suit class is practically inferior compared to the mobile suits. The only way this could coupe up would be having a superior number such as in the Ginn against a Mobieus. While for infantry, may be when a non-mobile suit falls infantries comes out, just for the sake of having infantries in the game.

I dont see the point of that. If say a tank is destroyed, and to begin with that tank is nearly toothless versus MS, having infantry spill out will add a little bit of realism, assuming people can actually survive its destruction in the first place, for almost no gain. You'd have to somehow code in infantry spilling out upon destruction, probably with the code used for the buildings. But the real problem is that there is no real benefit. It doesn't add a gameplay element, it just adds more toothless targets, and put even more strain on a game engine that wasn't perfect to begin with.

It was decided early on that infantry were to tactically insignificant to bother with.

I figured as much, unless if you want them for capturing stuff?

We can also use infantry models for mission specific purposes. like the MS capture mission, and other stuff.

This could actually make them somewhat 'useful'

I like that idea. For example, there can be a mission where a small squad of infantry must enter a building to find secret intel and it's the job of the mobile suits to protect both them and the building then escort them to a pick up location.

Alright people we now see the possible effects of having infantry, may be they could be the only one who could take buildings to add up some abilities to them. Other suggestions guys on the units of the game? Like could there be a Messiah, which can fire the NeoGenesis or how will the Requiem work, will there be stations that requires protection.

I believe infinity already had some plans for those. Not sure though.

Still, Infantry, not for battle for purely stragetical purposes, seems like it could have some good points.

Also, what if Infantry can repair? could help lol. (or mebe not, just brainstorming lol)

But yeah, infantry for securing and capturing points could work, along with the mission thing, like the Gundam Capture and other things, like base storming.

Now that would be more like it. How about this, instead of building upgrades, all that will be free when that structure for say is captured. Or infantry can secure a rendevous or re-enforcement point like normal.

I don't really see the point. We'll end up having to build too much infantry in the game for doing all that stuff in what is essentially a battlefield for MA and MS. They wont have a way of defending themselves, unless the infantry are all huge platoons of missile troopers. Which doesn't track right either.

The only time i recall any infantry fighting in SEED was in stargazer, when some unlucky fellows decided to shoot a Zuoot with rifles. They didn't do more than get its attention. Other than that i've never seen anything smaller than a jeep fighting.
