It's overwhelmingly confusing to have loads of ships intermingled randomly with research topics.

Is it possible to add a "switch" of some sort to switch different categories somewhere?

Now, this is something that probably crossed your mind at some point, so perhaps this is impossible, though I know they managed to do it for CNC Zero Hour, `course that's a different game...

But I'm just assuming since in that game such thing was not hardcoded I'd think logically this wasn't hardcoded ether. I don't know, just throwing this out there.

No, that's not really feasible. The new starbases and perhaps some different icons for research should take care of that, although the latter is not a major priority.

Hey Phoenix, about research..

Not knowing what you've already implemented/have planned, ive been wondering whether it would be feasible to split the ship research and upgrades, to some extent.

To research new ships, you have a "hero" who can access a research slot on certain planets (like R2D2/C3PO's steal tech slot), which would open an option pane where you select the ship you want to "research". Perhaps have some delay between selecting the research option and the Mk1 unit becoming available to build, and then be able to upgrade as you have now.

That would reduce the overload on the build bar to some extent, only leaving the buildable units and their respective upgrades.

I dont know whether this would be possible, or even suitable for PR, but i just thought i would throw it out in any case.

The problem is that you probably can't teach the AI to use such a system. Especially since custom heroes don't work in galactic mode with the vanilla AI.

Well, you'd have to steal it from the enemy, and then it would be synchronized at that. So you'd have to purchase all the initial research before getting anything from a deeper level. I don't think it would work.

I've gotten Han Solo to smuggle. I think it would be possible, if inappropriate.

I tried a whole day to get Mara Jade and a generic fleet commander to join attack forces...no luck. I am not even sure if the latter had a working galactic AI in vanilla.

I can't get hero attachment to work either (does it work in any mod?). But I've had better luck with abilities.
