Nice work ed, love the shield, though having the door on it seems an odd choice of heraldry...

I think that moria looks nice, but I'd have to see a bit more close up shots with proper lighting

ya, I should check it out, I removed the normals from around the clothing and left it on the chain mail and the skin, I added normal maps to S.E.E's new Uruk though and that turned out just fine

EDIT - The Khazad Stairs in test phase, really just a lighting phase, trying out the bloom feature, want it to be as bright as I can get it to get the burning atmospere in there. Does anyone know how to control lighting successfully through scripts, I can never seem to do it

Also, there was no actual lava in the movies or book, that was something EA decided to add. (I believe?)

In the movie, there were great big flames from the depths, but not lava. :p

I just figured that the great big flames had to originate from somewhere and seeing as the whole place was made of rock then there's nothing to burn or to generate that glow/heat down there. And it did seem like there was an upward glow from fire, if it was simply some bottomless pit then it would be dark and cold and seeing as the Balrog was behind them the light was being cast from the doorway, not upward, this means in fact that there must have been some form of flame beneath them and unless there's some pile of wood that fills the chasm and happens to be alight then it must have been lava. I've just looked and it turns out there was lava beneath them or something which looks very like it.

That looks more like water being illuminated with a torch than lava. I really don't think either was there. I believe the Balrog was causing it, despite the fact that he was behind them. He did control flame. :p

And when Gandalf was pulled down by the Balrog, they didn't fall into any lava...

That's not the Bridge of Khazad-Dum, is it (where Gandalf battled the Balrog?). Looks great no matter what, but maybe a little too red...

As for the lava, I do think that there was lava in Moria, but not necesarily everywhere. If I remeber from the movies,
the bridge of khazad-dum had a black abyss beneath it, no red glow. So it makes sense that, when Gandalf and the Balrog fell, they did not fall into lava. But it did appear that there was lava (or something else that makes a red glow) at the bottom of other parts of Moria. The Balrog could probably melt rock thus creating lava, and he would probably be right at home in a lava pit, too
