Here we are... I'll get started. This is what the topic description claims it is - a History of Gondor mod. It'll cover that - Gondor's beginnings, rise to power, and waning in strength, bringing us to the War of the Ring and climactic Battle of the Pelennor Fields. The mod will be divided into five 'Eras'. These are each a pivotal part in the Dunedain of the South's history, and they are; the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, Kin-Strife, Fall of Arnor, Wain-rider Invasions, and War of the Ring. As of right now, Gondor is the only faction planned. This will be more than enough work as it is; I'll elaborate below.

Last Alliance
Heroes:
-Elendil the Tall.
-Isildur the Fated.
-Anarion the Stalwart.

Units:
-Dunedain Men-at-Arms. Start with a spear and shield; pennant added to the banner when they reach Rank Two. Basic melee infantry.
-Dunedain Longbowmen. Spawn with a longbow and quiver of arrows. Rate of fire increases per Rank advancement.
-Dunedain Reserves. Wield axes. Gain a 'Toss Javelins' rechargeable ability at Rank Two.
-Northmen Archers. Light, fast mounted bowmen. At Rank Two gain a very short (ten second) "fire-while-moving" ability.
-Sangyahando (throng-cleaver). Halberd-wielding elites. Provide leadership buffs to nearby units. Have an area of effect (meta?) normal attack.

Buildings:
-Commander's Lodgings. Citadel; trains heroes.
-Dunedain Sparring Grounds. Trains units. Can be upgraded with 'Native Allies' to allow production of Northmen Archers.
-Dunedain Smithy. Resource producer. Can be upgraded with a 'Crafting Guild' to produce unit and building upgrades.
-Westron Lore-master. Heals and gives experience to nearby units and heroes.
-Sentries. Defensive emplacement of several archers on foot slaved to an area.

Upgrades:
-Blades of Westernese. Better version of Forged Blades. Upgrades existing melee weapons and gives all units (upgraded with it, obviously ) a sword on the hip. Archers use it when enemies get too close.
-Enlightened Smiths (new name?). Better version of Heavy Armour. Gives selected units more armour - helmets, pauldrons, etc.
-Host of the West. Better version of Banner Carriers. Buffs nearby units.
-Steel-bows of Numenor. Better version of Flaming Arrows. Increases attack damage and range of Dunedain Longbowmen.

Kin-Strife

Fall of Arnor

Wain-rider Invasion

War of the Ring

Still a work in progress on the tech tree, as you can see. Feel free to/please comment on what's done.

I've got a huge map that I made in Age of Empires II that has lots of varying units, and every hero mentioned from that era (with a couple added via my artistic licence :p ). For example, your Prince of Gondor, King of Gondor etc are all guys mentioned with names - IIRC people like Earnur, Earnil, Mardil the Steward, Faramir; then in Arnor people like Arvedui, Aranath and Malbeeth the Seer. My map is set in about 1950 of the 3rd age - just before the Witchking takes over Fornost, the time when the Wain Riders are attacking Gondor, and just before Glorfindel's famous prophecy. If you'd like basically the information - particularly with regards to hero names - feel free to ask.

Well, something else I'm considering (which would be the focal point of the mod) would be a campgain beginning around the start of the Third Age (depending on my skill level, featuring a Last Alliance prologue mission). This would be quite similar to Age of Empires in that upgrades, units, heroes, etc. would become available after and during certain battles to represent Gondor's rise in power.
I'd certainly be interested with what you've come up with - I'd appreciate it if you'd PM it to me, if that's fine.
Cheers, and thanks for the feedback,
-mike

Kind of late...
The race of Men is failing, the blood of Númenor is all but spent – its pride and dignity forgotten… It is because of Men the Ring survives.

Yeah, I'm actually planning on there being some really unique stuff - different (well, progressively updating) armour styles for each of the five Eras, a map.ini (still working on the specifics) campaign, etc.

Well this seems like a cool idea. I'll keep my eye on this project. Two eyes, as often as I can spare them.

Yay, concept art for the Northmen Expedition:

Basically, depending on your Era (the one above being from the Wain-rider Incursion) you'll be able to purchase an Emissary that can build a small base with build plots. Here, you can build things unique to that (don't want to say minifaction ;))... thing. This will mainly supplement Gondor's lack of cavalry and fast-moving units.

Here's an example of a Rohan Camp:

As you can see, I'm going for a very realistic approach - not many heavy stone and wood structures, but instead light, easy-to-move tents and the like. Instead of a farm you have a livestock pen, etc.

I've got some very unique ideas planned out for this. Stay tuned :wink_new:

Not bad. Only, why in the name of cows did you make the Citadel thing a dead tree whit 4 tents around it?

Floris; that's to represent a big-ass tent where the King/Captain/whoever's in charge is directing his forces from. Just a concept for now ;)

Kind of late with saying this, but I am very interested to see where this goes, particularly the Kin-Strife. I have to admit that I have had a secret desire to play a mod that included the Kin-Strife... The thought of Osgiliath getting the crap kicked out of it, excites me  .

Heh. Here's an idea of what Eldacar's going to look like (when he returns to take back the throne, not while King). That should give you some ideas of where I'll be going with both the Northmen, and how the Gondorians looked around this time.

Let the speculation... begin!
