My mod starts to load the game, then stops at the "Empire at War" screen, the original not the FOC version. It freezes for about ten minutes then crashes.

then an error window pops up.( xml parse error -- File .\Data\XML\GUIDialogs.xml: file jas syntax errors, see log file ) any ideas?

and im a total noob, any advice would be nice

You are talking about PR, right?

Make sure you have

* FoC version 1.1 (if necessary, apply the patch),
* no XML or script folder in ...\FoC\Data (otherwise delete them),
* installed/uncompressed the mod files to ...\FoC\Mods.

Yeah, that would probably be the fastest way. Just make sure it's in the right place.
