The twelfth Red Alert 3 profile has been released; this week it's the Allies Drone Aircraft Carrier:

Posted Image

Now in active service worldwide, any given aircraft carrier contains a full complement of Sky Knight-class UCAVs, air-to-surface fighter drones proven to be highly effective in long-range engagements against fortifications and installations. Rather than suffer wear and tear and other unnecessary exposure to harm from being left out on the decks of Carriers, the Sky Knights are concealed in launch bays belowdecks, in facilities made to monitor, control, and maintain full complements of drones at all times. Drones are fast and precise, and each is armed with a powerful 500 lb. armor-piercing bomb similar to Jethroes commonly used by the Allies' Century Bombers. After releasing its payload, a given drone must return to its carrier, where it can rearm.

Realism is so overrated it isn't even funny. You already know what happens in reality, how is that entertaining...?

Sounds like a mighty fine vessel.

it's still too small and outscaled compared to other vehicles and even infantry units :(

It's meant to be. If it were life-size, then 5 of them would fill up the screen.

Anyway, Red Alert has never been known for realistically sized units. Even Starcraft 2 has unrealistically scaled units, just look at the Battlecruiser...

err....surely I don't pretend full realism but an aircraft carrier which is smaller than an apocalypse tank is fool in my opinion. Just make it bigger, not exaggerated, but at least twice bigger.

In most RA2/YR mods the infantry is 25% smaller and they get some graphic benefits.

Speaking about SC2 battlecruisers and carriers are outscaled but at least, they seem bigger than other units...

Well the hell do they show these concept arts when the units look nothing like them?
The concept is quite an interesting and unusual design, the unit is boring as hell and has a large deck area for absolutely no reason :S

RA2's Hornets just vanished though, this has got a very definite door that opens and the drones come out of.

So? The door is also for the missile.

Or maybe the Carrier (If it were "reality", outside of the game) would be used as a repair and refitting stop for other Allied planes. That would actually have been a neat secondary function, but I guess since you can build on water you dont need it.

How half baked is this... it leaves no wake in the water whatsoever, it looks like it's flying.

Bravo for EA quality.

The lack of a wake is an acknowledged bug (like the Apollo fighter's sudden stop). It was a problem with the map, nothing more.

You'd think for a presentation they'd bother to fix it, right? :p

I think it's pretty low on their list of priorities.

Would you prefer they fix non-critical (especially if it's just a map setup issue) bugs for the unit profiles, or work on the important stuff of getting everything ready for the beta?

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Say Coke is releasing a new variety. They're about to reveal it to the press, but in a bottle that has a hole in it, as the factory was too busy perfecting the taste. The Coke leaks from the hole during the presentation.

What do you think the press will think?

Except in this case it's a case of the label being a little bit off kilter on the bottle, and they know about the manufacturing problem that caused the cosmetic issue.

Its like people are making excuses for them as if they are a small start up company of 5-10 guys with a dream... This is EA, they have more resources available to them than just about every single gaming company in the world!

Is it so hard to understand. The concept at the top is one of the many failed prototypes. They don't have any concept for the finished version, probably because this one looks better....
