GOLDEN FOREST

I would like to introduce my new mapping project - Golden Forest.

Story

The story takes place during the last assault on Lothlorien during War of the Ring. In this map players will get chance to command elven armies to drive back the Sauron's onslaught.

Key features

  • Heavily scripted singleplayer map, similar gameplay to my previous map Fall of the Iron Crown;
  • Based on a newly built Lothlorien map;
  • Optimized for smooth gameplay;
  • Playable on BFME2 (Rise of the Witch King won't be required)
This map will be featured in RJ-ROTWK campaign as well, using the full potential of the mod's amazing elven faction.

Well there wasn't much work done but still I've been able to incorporate some new bits of the overall storyline into the map.

There was an alliance between Celeborn and the ents of Fangorn. Their appearance will make for one of the better moments of the map.

Looks a lot better then EA's Lorien.
The race of Men is failing, the blood of Númenor is all but spent – its pride and dignity forgotten… It is because of Men the Ring survives.

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.

I had the meaning of life in my signature, but it exceeded the character limit.

I love the lighting in this map, the same can be said for your other maps, you always get the lighting and fog just right to give the appropriate atmosphere, I have to say that I for one enjoy playing your maps alot more than I do most other artists for that reason, there isn't just a concentration on map objects and terrain there's an entire scene set up.

Yeah, seeing as this is most likely my last map for BFME series I'll try my best to reassume to my previous work.

Great to see the comments, they're always welcomed.

Maybe if we're all very very very lucky, EA will hire you for future LOTR games :shiftee:. Keep up the good work though, looks good and can't wait to play it!

Today I was polishing the existing content, one particular example is the battle for the white bridge (featured in the trailer). When you're looking at the bridge the camera automatically changes its angle and zoom. The transition is quite smooth and shouldn't cause any problems.

When completing one of the map's bonus objectives you'll be tasked to go through a narrow path. To make things more interesting I made it so that a bunch of trolls uproot half of the trees in the way. Ha! Quite familiar to what happened to Frodo and Sam in the original Amon Hen mission.

One of the objectives will be guarding captive giants from being released against you:

And finally one more screenshot of the ents:

So that was a little insight of what's the gameplay gonna be like. The map is currently from about 60% done and might be released in January/February (no promises as this will be quite a revolution at storytelling among BFME maps ;) )

Revolution is a big word. ;)

Is it so different from EA's campaign maps? It could be just old middle-earth's lorien with a new hat (anyone watch the simpsons...?).

Anyway, and now I'm done with the evil opinions, from what I can see I expect big battles and cool scripted events on a long map.
Good luck with the remaining touches, and as you say don't release it until every little bug has been squatted and cleaned :p

Edit: I've just played The fall of the Iron Crown. That was a new hat, but hell of a flashy and stylish one! :p
Will The Golden Forest beat this one?

Good question :) I'll let people to judge that.

And don't worry about the bugs - some of the best mappers will be testing the map before release.
