and just to add onto this - i was just playing as isengard and noticed a few things - i think the crossbow reload time should be greatly reduced from 9000 milliseconds - it takes forever for them to fire again - say about 5000 instead? :)

also - the Isengard Ballista - it seems to NEVER hit - the huge arrow thing either flies several miles to the right or left or doesnt even reach its target in terms of distance - could you do something about that?

thanks

@ 1st reply

I'd disagree, at least partially.

For V3 (ask elbenmensch about V2, I've been releasing updates with lots of fixes) one of my main changes is intended to be dens.

The only buildings I have problems with are wild orc caves and other dens, they take stupid amounts of killing, and this means that the (overpowered, I'm still solving this too) spawn units constantly respawn and hurt!

Normal buildings should be that tough, it's a fundamental part of SEE - they are meant to require proper siege engines.

@ 2nd

The latest version, which elbenmensch has (ask him for the link to my server), slightly reduces the time for a crossbow.

I see what you're saying, but it's been properly balanced now - in the original version they ahd a long reload but not amazing damage. Their reload is still almost as long, reduced only slightly, but they're almost always a one shot kill now.

It's how a crossbow should be.

As for ballistae, I've not changed them, and not really had cause to. They're inaccurate against moving targets, but as far as I can see in the code they have a 100% accuracy rate, it's just easy to dodge.

I'm not sure that I appreciate the way you've made this topic into your own production. I'm not doing years of work on SEE with my team and Contributors, so that someone can just pop in and do some balance changes here and there, and thus make "a new mod". SEE isn't balaced yet, and you don't have permission to do your own (official) version. I'd suggest you keep this via PM only to keep it "private", before you get the idea to release this as a stand alone official mod production.

This is not me being hard headed or proud, but showing respect to all of the team and contributors. The only way to mod a mod, is to do it for personal use only, not for distribution to others. It's a violation to the modding morale. A better way to work on SEE would be to join us and help me code it - assuming we have similar ideas...

I'm no fool; I have worked on many mods before, and would never claim any of your work as my own.

Before jumping to defend what is rightfully yours, please know that I am not giving advertising this file on websites or claiming its mine, but with the massive inbalance with the mod which is yet unfixed, two people requested that I send them my personal fixes.

I simply have sent slightly edited versions of the weapon.inc and the weapon.ini files to two people along with a copy of my own ini.big file (vanilla, can do that :)), acknowledging that you are yet to properly balance this mod and offering them something to work as a solution to make their gameplay work properly until you do.

I wouldn't particularly request to join you; though I am a coder for mods of other games (Spore, EAW etc), my profiency with the BFME II ini code isn't particularly masterful; I can sort out weaponry, units, hordes, and everything related to them, but I have only put them to proper use in balancing this. I most definitely have not claimed this to be a new mod - as I said it's just a tiny pack of fixes to make your mod work until you sort it out - I'm distributing two slightly edited versions of your files, not the entire mod rebranded!

If you wish to, however, you may look over it and add a big disclaimer to it, making sure there is no confusion in the mod's origin or if you so wished I'd do this sort of 'officially', but the emphasis must lie here that I am not retailing a new mod!

I'll PM you a copy of this to be safe

isengard crossbows are brilliant now - it's awesome seeing them fire into a crowd of approaching units and watching them drop like flies :shiftee:

something i think needs attention though is Galadriel - she's really weak - it not only takes lots of hits for her to kill enemies but she doesnt have much health either and seems to level up really slowly - she was a pretty prominent and powerful figure in the movies so it doesnt make much sense to have her get her ass kicked so quickly

just throwing out a suggestion because i love the work you've done so far :crazed:

Thanks verd, but please let me sort this out with Nazgul before going any further.

[And I presume elbenmensch gave you that link; the new ones are good, hmm? They work like proper crossbowmen, as you said, dropping enemies, even armoured ones, but the 8900 millisecond reload and shorter range means you have to use them right :shiftee:]

I don't mind anyone modding this mod, or any mod for that matter, as long as they keep it "off the record", in small scale and not as a "new mod". I'm not saying you try to, I'm only stating my views on the matter. You keep speaking about SEE as not being playable at all. I'm perfectly aware of the fact that the mod still needs a lot of balancing, all over. However, the reason for this is all the "when is the next beta coming out" spamming that goes on each time the mod has been updated with new stuff. We could go the RA way and hold and hold and hold... without any release dates whatso ever. Or we could do what we do, and release BETAs which means they're not finished versions. People always screm for the next version, and balancing is something that:
1) Takes a LOT of time due to all them weapons, armor, spells, damage types and whatnot, that needs to be adjusted.
2) Can't be done properly until ALL units have been added, so we (I) can get a good overall view of all the factions units and how they should interact.

One of the prime goals with SEE is "realism" and that includes balance indeed. But like I used to say: Yo can't edit a movie until all the scenes have been shot". Ergo: I find it a bit annoying with this topic that makes itself out to be the "cure of SEE". No disrespect though... just being honest :crazed:

So I suggest you keep this debate with your friends via PM where nothing can get blown out of proportion :shiftee:
And btw, SEE is not "mine"... it is my mod yes, but it's a collaboration of many many modders, and that's why I need to be extra careful with what happens to it. I hope you understand. But good luck on your balance changes, just keep them off the record so to speak =)

Will balancing be done wth 4.7?

Anyway, i really like the changes chris made, they simply make the mod better.(what doesnt mean that it was bad before, you know that im a big fan of see)

So y dont you just take over the changes chris made?

the changes he made are nothing against the spirit of see,
just a few balance changes....this is no seperate mod, this is still SEE.

It would be good if we could work something out; because if anyone PMs me asking for it I'll give them the link, but I'd be more comfortable just be able to openly leave a link officially somewhere of your choosing, so people can choose whether or not they want it with official backing; that way there would be no confusion as to whose the mod is; and it could be viewed as purely a freelancer optional patch, an in-between optional patch between versions? Since it's only really two files edited it would be an easy optional patch which would take seconds to download, and people (so far) like it...

@LtChris: I'd still like you to keep this via PM (Not to me, but with your followers). If I let you do this here, we might as well open up for everyone to do their own version and we'd end up with 25 different versions of SEE, and ppl will start buggin us about the mod not being compatible online :p

I'm sorry if it's awkward for you to handle this via PM, but I really don't want this development in here. Might be harsh, but I've walked 1000 miles for this mod, and I have a 1000 more to go. I simply can't just give it to you to do with what you please - not officially. I am going to lock this topic tomorrow, so I'd suggest you post some sort of statement on what it is your doing, what your goals are, and how ppl can contact you via PM to get your version of SEE, if you can guarantee that you tell them NOT to come here for support when using your version.

By saying this, I'm already cutting you more slack than you deserve, as you have already crossed the line way back when you started posting about this as a stand alone "patch" without written permission from me OR anyone else involved in this mod. You will find NO modder at T3A (at least none of higher level) that will say this is an ok way to "mod" - I can promise you that. I'm not angry (beleive me, you'd know when I'm angry). I'm simply a bit annoyed. I know it's tempting to take a mod that you like and just throw on the amount of salt you need for your taste. But you can't do that to anyone else but yourself really... That's just the way it is.

Please remain calm, I have crossed no line, that was a suggestion and not something I have done.

I shall therefore remain along your suggestions, and post a brief summary, including a disclaimer about the origins of SEE and about how it is not supported.

I am no militant; technically a man of God, so you need not worry.
