I'm afraid there is no news yet about when Rob will be back, however in the meantime, here's something new which has been added to the next release.
Leadership in both BFME games has been fx based, and, consequently caused quite a bit of lag when there were lots of units receiving leadership on the screen at once. As well as this, armies were pretty much overpowered by the glow, distracting from the look of the units, and affecting the realism of the game.
We've implemented a new leadership system for heroes, based on their selection decal. When the hero gains their leadership power, the decal grows to the radius of the power, showing the area on which the leadership acts a similar way to the decals under the heroic statues and wells. We've also included symbols which show the type(s) of leadership the hero is giving.

For leadership which comes from sources other than heroes, (warchant, elven wood, tainted land etc...) the subtle glowing star-trail effect is used.

Click the image below to see the new decals in game, and see which heroes will have which leadership types in the next release. Rob has tried to return, where possible to BFME1 leadership standards.

woah, would I like to steal this idea and fail at making it look cool... :p

Anyways, I think it shows to much, and think it should be at about 50% more transparent :xcahik_: Right now it looks like a spell, but you'll do as you want of course
Looks freakin' nice though, great job :p

I think once you start selecting multiple heroes, it will look a bit messy, so as Lauri said, making them more transparent might be necessary. But otherwise, well thought out :p

The decals fade between 100% and about 70% opacity so they don't look too heavy. These screens are all captured at 100% so that the symbols are easier to see, and we chose maps which show up the design well. They look more integrated with the game usually. Also, as they are selection decals, they take on the colour of the team which you are playing.

The decals really were an excellent idea. And might I add, they make more sense than a mystical glow.

@ m@tt: Actually, even if you have a lot of heroes with the decals select, it's not too messy.

Very cool. Esp. Gandalf and Saruman

Very interesting idea on how to remove the massive glowing from BfME. I'm a bit curious as to whether it looks when you have several heroes with overlapping decals, but cool nonetheless!

Btw, how does stacking work (if it works at all)?

They just overlap eachother.

Stacking...everything stacks...it was stupid of bfme2 to make it not stack, and to standardize the values.

Btw shikari, any reason this is pinned? :p

I didn't know all that actually could stack in BfME II ^^ It's cool that it does, though.

No, I'm saying they couldn't in bfme2 :p They could in bfme1, and they will in rj.

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.
