This is a wonderful band. I can't think of (m)any bands like them. Remedy Lane and Road Salt One are great albums especially!

Not generic 80's. I want synthesizers, saxophones, and electric guitars. Nonsense stories and heavy metal macabre.

ELP was 70s though. Until they regrouped in the 90s but you can forget that pretty much.
If you want story, 80s, synthesizers etc then ELO of course, especially Time! Just listen to the opening... it'll suck you in with the electronic monologue.

Now we're getting somewhere. I really dig that Electric Light Orchestra, Bolt. I've never actually listened to the whole thing.

Yeah APP are pretty good, Turn of a Friendly Card and I Robot especially.
Forgot as well, Planet P Project - Pink World, I even had it uploaded myself for the last couple of years. Full 2 hour synth-pop concept album about a boy getting the power to see the future, which is of course nuclear annihilation so is forced by the government to help them build a forceshield to see them through the nuclear winter. Linky to full album.
Of course also Iron Maiden at the height of the 80s with their Somewhere In Time album. One of only two albums they did with synthesizers (I wonder who performed them...). Link to that.
