I know I'm not the only one who wishs the AI upgrades for often. I've come up with some ideas that might help. I herd somewere else on the forums that the AI picks what to build by comparing stats to price, obviously seeing nothings built the AI has little reason to upgrade.
I've come up with an idea:
When a unit is upgraded, the same unit at that upgrade level is created. This gives the AI a reason to upgrade ships if upgrading on its own creates a ship.
Possible?

-The upgrade is expensive, but isn't so good.
-The ship is less expensive, and better.
Doesn't leave them much choice of what to do. I think we just need to give the upgrades stats that would get them noticed. Unfortunately, I have no idea what stats the AI would look at.
As far as giving them a unit for the upgrade, I don't think that would solve the problem. If the AI really does look at stats vs. cost to decide what to build, the AI would still choose the units before the upgrades, because they're getting something that, while it may not be quite as good as the next level, is still much cheaper.

Changing the parameter in the XML file apparently doesn't do much to solve the problem.There is a way to make AI upgrade. It's in the AI upgrade thread.
Zarkis said the AI might look at cost vs. AI combat power. If that's the case, then we should test out adding in and/or increasing that value on the upgrades to a comparable or better number to the ships, and see if that helps.
